  1. I agree that anime is relatively easy to pick up from, and as for the made up words and slang there's usually TL notes to cover you on that. What I am concerned about, though, are the languages that aren't featured in too many animated shows, so I assume I'll have to rely on dubbed cartoons and such for that. That aside, though, I didn't really believe I'll be binge-watching the German dub of Noddy in my lifetime prior to having this idea!
  2. Since one of the best ways to learn a language is to expose yourself to it as much as possible, it's quite obvious that watching TV programs and movies and other such media spoken in that language would be very beneficial to the learning process. However, I find that in watching certain shows or movies, the dialogue can sometimes be a bit too complex or hard to follow. That led me to consider watching children's shows as a sort of gateway to learning the language, as mostly simpler language is used in that kind of media, and with a educative tone to boot. What do you guys think? Do you think it's beneficial for language novices to start exposing themselves through children's shows spoken in that language?
  3. I'm actual wondering how the forum used to look, as I've only recently joined it...can anyone post a screenie?
  4. This looks great. Even better than the app I was previously using, Obenkyo. This app does have Japanese grammar aids right? Mine could use some work.
  5. Definitely. Actively listening to a language being spoken gives you a general idea of how they're actually spoken outside of the classroom or wherever it is you're learning it.
  6. Definitely Japanese. It takes all of the elegant characters in Chinese and adds a set of easy-to-use letters that look like these cute little tangled spaghetti strands or sharp-ended, stabby letters.
  7. My native language is Filipino. I like how it's this cultural hodgepodge of a language and you just sort of get surprised sometimes when it shares a couple of words with the language of some neighboring country.
  8. Hey everyone! I'm yet another new member. Having achieved sufficient fluency in my mother tongue, Filipino, and English, I decided it was time to move on to other things. I've taken up Japanese, sprung from my love of anime, and German as well, as it...appeals to me, for some reason. Anyway, I hope we all have a great time here. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!
  9. Does anyone know any good German movies, tv shows, or video games that are good resources for those who are trying to learn German? I find mimicking the speech from audio files quite boring and I'd like a more entertaining way to learn by example. Japanese already has a plethora of entertainment mediums one can use to learn it by ear, and I'm wondering if there's any good German equivalent.
