  1. For an informal letter, you can begin with Dear (name of person)/ Hi (name of person)/ Hello (name of person) Leave a line, then write the contents of your letter. It's typical to ask how the person you're writing to is doing in the first paragraph, but there are no real rules to this. When you're done, you sign off on the left.
