Is the most common way to ask someone how their day is going.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The verb estuvo is the preterit version of the verb &lsquo;estar&rsquo; in the third person singular. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So it literally means &lsquo;was.&rsquo; In this case, the Spanish sentence structure mirrors the English structure exactly:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&iquest;C&oacute;mo = how<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">estuvo = was<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tu = your<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">d&iacute;a? = day? &nbsp; &nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Maria : Santiago, &iquest;C&oacute;mo estuvo tu d&iacute;a?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Santiago : Estuvo muy bien !&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maria: Santiago, how was your day?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Santiago: It was great !<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2. &iquest;C&oacute;mo estuvo su d&iacute;a?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&iquest;C&oacute;mo estuvo su d&iacute;a? is exactly the same construction as &iquest;C&oacute;mo estuvo tu d&iacute;a? but it uses the formal &lsquo;su&rsquo; rather than the informal &lsquo;tu&rsquo; to mean &lsquo;you.&rsquo; <\/span><\/p>\n<p>This means that we use it in formal contexts, when talking to elders and people of higher social standing. If you attend in-person Spanish classes, this would be the best way to ask your teacher how his\/her day is going.<\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Maria : Senor Martinez, &iquest;C&oacute;mo estuvo su d&iacute;a?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Snr Martinez: &iexcl;chit&oacute;n!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maria : Mr Martinez, how was your day?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr Martinez: Shhh!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>3. &iquest;C&oacute;mo andas?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andar is a regular -ar verb which means &lsquo;to go&rsquo;, so it&rsquo;s the same as &lsquo;how&rsquo;s it going?&rsquo; in English. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just like &lsquo;how&rsquo;s it going?&rsquo; it comes across as quite informal, so it&rsquo;s probably not one to use with your Spanish teacher!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">andar<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a verb, we need to conjugate it if we&rsquo;re using pronouns other than tu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usted &ndash; &iquest;C&oacute;mo anda?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ustedes &ndash; &iquest;C&oacute;mo andan?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vostros &ndash; &iquest;C&oacute;mo and&aacute;is?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Example:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Luis : Dora, &iquest;C&oacute;mo andas?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dora : Bien<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luis : Dora, how&rsquo;s it going?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dora : Good<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. &iquest;Qu&eacute; me cuentas?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Probably the most informal phrase on our list, &iquest;Qu&eacute; me cuentas? Means &lsquo;What are you telling me?&rsquo; and is equivalent to the English &lsquo;What&rsquo;s up?&rsquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of the informality, you don&rsquo;t give a literal answer to this one. You&rsquo;re better off replying with &lsquo;lo normal&rsquo; (the usual) or &lsquo;nada&rsquo; (nothing).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Marco : Miguel, &iquest;Qu&eacute; me cuentas?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Miguel : Nada.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marco : Miguel, what&rsquo;s up?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miguel : Nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>5. &iquest;Qu&eacute; tal tu d&iacute;a?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we saw above<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&iquest;qu&eacute; tal? means &lsquo;how are you?&rsquo; So we can add &lsquo;tu d&iacute;a&rsquo; to the end of the phrase to create &iquest;qu&eacute; tal tu d&iacute;a? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is rather an informal phrase, so again you&rsquo;d use it more with one person you know very well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Jorge : Miguel, &iquest;Qu&eacute; tal tu d&iacute;a?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Miguel : Muy bien, gracias. &nbsp;<\/strong> &nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jorge : Miguel, how&rsquo;s your day?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miguel : Great, thank you.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>6. &iquest;Qu&eacute; tal el d&iacute;a?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A variation on &iquest;Qu&eacute; tal tu d&iacute;a ? above, but we are replacing &lsquo;tu&rsquo; (your) with &lsquo;el&rsquo; (the). So it seems a little bit less specific.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Jorge : Miguel, &iquest;Qu&eacute; tal el d&iacute;a?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miguel : Bien, gracias.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jorge : Miguel, how&rsquo;s the day going?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miguel : It&rsquo;s going well, thank you .<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>7. &iquest;Como te va? <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&iquest;Como te va? Is variant of &iquest;Qu&eacute; tal? and should also be used in an informal setting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because we&rsquo;re using the informal &lsquo;te&rsquo; here, we need to use it in informal contexts. You can replace &lsquo;te&rsquo; with &lsquo;le&rsquo; if you want to be more polite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Martina : &iquest;Como te va?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Raul : Mi esposa me dej&oacute;!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Martina : How&rsquo;s your day going?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raul : My wife left me!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>8. &iquest;C&oacute;mo te fue hoy?&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/strong> &nbsp; <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It might be that your friend has just sat an exam. Or perhaps they started a new job. Or when out on a date.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In that case, you might want to specify that you want to know how <b>today <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has gone, rather than a generic &lsquo;the day.&rsquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In this case, we&rsquo;re going to use the adverb &lsquo;hoy&rsquo; (today) to make your phrase more specific. &iquest;C&oacute;mo te fue hoy? &ndash; How did it go today?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Martina : &iquest;C&oacute;mo te fue hoy?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Laura : Tuve un buen dia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Martina : How did it go today?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Laura : My day was good.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>9. &iquest;C&oacute;mo le fue hoy?&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/strong> &nbsp; <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps you&rsquo;re the boss of the new employee and you want to find out how the day went. tal te va el d&iacute;a por ahora? and &iquest;C&oacute;mo te ha ido el d&iacute;a hasta ahora?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If, at lunchtime, you sit down with your new colleague and want to get the lowdown on how their morning has been, you can ask &lsquo;&iquest;Qu&eacute; tal te va el d&iacute;a por ahora?&rsquo; or &lsquo;&iquest;C&oacute;mo te ha ido el d&iacute;a hasta ahora?&rsquo;. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both mean &lsquo;how is your day going?&rsquo; or &lsquo;how has your day been so far?&rsquo; with the implication that there is still more of the day to go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-grey\">\n<p><strong>Raul : C&oacute;mo te ha ido el d&iacute;a hasta ahora?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pepito : &iexcl;Mi examen fue f&aacute;cil!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raul : How&rsquo;s your day been so far?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pepito : My exam was easy!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>12. and 13. &iquest;C&oacute;mo est&aacute;s hoy? and &iquest;C&oacute;mo va todo hoy?&nbsp; &nbsp; <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or perhaps your lunch date is a friend, and you want to be a bit more informal when asking how their day has been so far. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this case, rather than asking &lsquo;&iquest;Qu&eacute;
