Nothing to be ashamed about if you're singing J-pop. I know several Morning Musume songs that I just start singing out of nowhere. When I am out karaoke-ing, the only songs that I choose are jpop songs because I am more familiar with them.

As someone who is taking advanced Japanese classes, I think the hardest part is reading. There are so many vocabulary words that I don't know, and reading it for the first time is pretty difficult. The kanji is difficult as well. The strokes have to be in a particular order, and you have to write it several times in order for the stroke order to stick.

It's ok for beginners that have no exposure to the language, but I would use romanji for hiragana practice. Only for the sole purpose of translating the English letters into hiragana. That was what my teacher did when I was first learning Japanese.

For me, I enjoy watching anime and dramas, so if I can watch it without subtitles, I would be feel very accomplished. Also, I plan to go to Japan for vacation, and it would be very useful to put everything I've learned into practice.

Haha, that's the one I immediately thought of. There are so many English sayings that are just ludicrous. It is kind of fun to say, however. More fun to say than, perhaps "its raining boulders and flakes".

I agree! That was the one that came to my mind. Whenever it rained heavily, my teachers would say, "It's raining cats and dogs." It's pretty common.

I remember I first heard this after I broke up with someone and my friend said to me, "there's plenty more fish in the sea." And I remember saying, "Yeah you're right" haha

My favorite is this: (something) has nothing on this (or that). My friends used to tell me, "You got nothing on me when it comes to food." Another one of my favorites is "go with the flow." I use that a lot when I am speaking with my friends.

I remembered that I had to write in cursive from 2nd until 6th grade. It wasn't until 7th grade that my teachers stopped caring which kind of handwriting to use. As of now I only use cursive when I am signing something.
