  1. I've been having trouble with posting here recently because everytime I reply to a thread I get blocked by either a notification that I have to wait 150 seconds before posting again, or my post has already been submitted and I should reload but then I check and it hasn't, or I just get an unable to load page default error page on my browser.

This has lead me to copy each post so that in case the next page I get is an error I'd still have my whole post and I could just paste it and submit it, but the problem is that this causes me to stop everything until I have successfully posted my message or else I might risk copying something else accidentally and losing my whole post. Also, having to put up a timer just so I know I when it's safe to post again is proving to be bothersome and it is making my experience unpleasant.

Please look into this, admin, I don't know if anyone else is getting bothered by this, and if it's just me then feel free to ignore it but I just thought I would voice out my concerns.

I am also afflicted by the delay plague. When I get on a roll, I post quite quick. Maybe reduce the time to 60 or 45 seconds, perhaps?

Otherwise, I end up losing my train of thought... poor thing...

The sad thing? I'll have to wait 150 seconds after I post this reply...

  2. Interesting. I've never heard of this method before. It sounds good - a deeper, more thorough way of learning a new language. But it also sounds a bit slower, for someone who's not in a hurry. Anyway, I'm going to give this a look. I may even try it myself. ;) Thanks!

Ah, your statement is only flawed in one aspect...

The michel thomas method works at astonishing speeds, as you do not forget anything. The full basic foundation of any of the languages takes about 8 hours, tops. Advanced? 4 hours. Any course beyond that  is variable.

  3. Hello everyone, I am Christine from Jamaica. I am currently learning Spanish and is also interested in learning several other languages. I can teach a little English and Patois/ Jamaican Creole, yeah mon.

Oh my! More people pouring in from all over the world!

Jamaican Creole sounds lovely. Wouldn't mind learning a little beside my current Russian.

    Welcome to Linguaholic!

  4. Thanks you so much! I would love have you post the german and russian.

The guy starts by saying, no  home work, no trying, no memorization... how the heck is this going to work lol

Greetings Rhotta! Sorry about late response.

Yes, it does sound strange. It does sound like cheating. But in a way, it is.

Would you like German or Russian first? I have German Foundation, I have Russian Foundation & Advanced, plus the booklets, so, which would you like first?

  5. Upon further consideration ,not sure outside of the Vatican what use speaking Latin would be, but in terms of knowing it so that I can read it, this would certainly be valuable.

I agree, this is exactly my opinion. Simply knowing Latin is enough to get an eyebrow raised.

Ego conveniunt. Haec est mea sententia. Plane scire Latine satis impetro an supercilium resurrexit.

(Translation: What I just said) (Used Google Translate)

  6. Talk about the devil, here I am :-) But I can't be the only one on this forum being interested in this beautiful (but also hard) language... However, if I am the only one showing any interest, its own sub-forum would of course be useless - I'm not going to keep it alive by filling it with discussions all by myself!  :)

Sorry about late reply, I was at a boat and the connection popped out. Then just forgot.

But yes, the thread would be useless if only one person jumped in. It would be  tough. :doubtful:

So, instead of an entire section, maybe we could post some online resources for Polish.

    For example...

    http://www.fluentin3months.com/polish/

    http://www.skwierzyna.net/learn_polish.htm

    http://www.linguanaut.com/learn_polish.htm

    http://mowicpopolsku.com/

    http://www.polishcourse.org/

    http://www.101languages.net/polish/

May this assist you in your journey(and mine, soon!)

  7. Again, that is a lot of information you THINK you have extrapolated from me based on that post and once again it's presumptuous. If I were not "CALM" or "UPSET" as you think I was, believe me you and everyone else would soon know about it, in fact I couldn't have been in a better mood when I posted.

I am on this forum first and foremost to LEARN from other people, secondly to impart any information I wish to share, I don't just post for the sake of posting.

A more productive and salient response to that post might have been: "So spacetimecontinuum, why do you think that? or please site some references?", etc, etc, not  "calm down"...it's patronizing, rude and shuts down reasonable discourse.

I respond to threads that I'm interested in, full stop, period. I enjoy the dialogue and exchange.

If you personally wish to only read dull, bland, insipid replies, I suggest you start a forum called pleaseboremetodeath.com, where I'm sure all your personal needs will be met. ROTFL.

OK, I did not mean anything by it, I was simply replying as I am. Lets leave this before it turns into a flame war. Shall we?

  8. Hi Fellow Language Enthusiasts!

Has anybody tried learning through the Michel Thomas Method?

Quite interesting, makes you learn the way a child learns, taking in words bit by bit and absorbing it logically. Makes you join in, and work with your brain.

    Have you tried it?

If anyone wants a taster, I can post a free demo.
