darkchild got a reaction from Ernesto in Learning a new language with minimal "memory usage"
I have had a similar experience as well. Mine was at Primary school (Grade school) where we were mandated to learn Hausa Language and the teacher would just come in speaking for 20 minutes in Hausa Language.
I was always lost and barely scaled through. Not all language teachers are good at their jobs. Others use skillful techniques in helping struggling students learn the language with minimal memory usage.
darkchild got a reaction from Lingua Franca in Learning another language to accept a job
If the pay is super good, it would highly motivate me to put all things aside to learn a language.
The key word here is motivation; if you are motivated by a huge trophy at the end of the race, then the race is worth taking.
darkchild got a reaction from Cuba in Translation mistakes
There are so many translation mistakes I have come across but I just think since English is not their first language, the mistake can pass.
It would be more ideal for people to invest more in translators than being tagged illiterate because of mistakes. Not everyone forgives translation mistakes.
darkchild got a reaction from frankfurt in What motivates your Language Learning?
There is one thing that motivates my language learning and that is 'Intimidation'.
When I feel intimidated that everyone around me can speak a particular language and I cannot, I get intimidated to learn quickly.
What's your motivation?
darkchild got a reaction from dylr88 in Movies in Foreign Languages
Has anyone noticed that when you watch a movie in a foreign language you do not understand and the movie is not subtitled; with focus and concentration, especially with intriguing movies, you tend to understand what's going on.
I grew up watching Indian movies and some were not subtitled but I did understand the movie. I have had similar experiences with French and Spanish movies too and eventually pick up some words that are emphasized.
Who else has been in this situation?
darkchild got a reaction from Blaveloper in Getting a teaching degree, now what?
Hi @Blaveloper, have a free mindset to learn and expect to excel in everything you do.
If I were you, I wouldn't anticipate as much as you are. Be positive; that's one of the keys to success.
Good luck and hope all goes well.
darkchild reacted to Trellum in Name calling
@darkchild It's considered very rude in my country for two or more persons to start speaking another language if they are excluding another person. Specially if this done on purpose knowing beforehand the person in question doesn't speak the language Sadly I got that done a lot in the Netherlands. I knew I was being talked ill of, I tried to control myself that one time though, but what I really wanted to say was: ''If you are so brave why don't you say it n my face in English?''.
