  1. Hello! I'm Deniz, 17 years old with a not-so great memory. I do have the motivation for learning another language, but not really the time as I am taking college and high school classes. I was thinking thirty minutes a day for seven days a week sounds like a plan. That's 168 hours per year; 3 hours 30 minutes / per week. If I were diligent, the numbers would be higher. Do you think 30 minutes is impractical? I don't have to be fluent in the third language, but I would like to be proficient. I speak fluent English as it is my native tongue and I know a good chunk of Turkish, though I should seek improvement. It is my second language; my parents speak fluent Turkish. I live in USA, Texas. Majority of the people in my school are Spanish-speaking. If I were to learn Mexican-Spanish, it would benefit me as most hiring jobs pick the person that knows both Spanish and English over the person that knows only English. It is also the 2nd most spoken language. I will be taking college Spanish 1 and 2 during the summer as it is a requirement for my Associate's degree. I'm not at all interested in the language itself, even though I have many close friends who speak Spanish. I rather learn any other language, but I do realize the benefits of Spanish. However, I'm a sucker for Korean dramas as I have watched at least 220+ Korean dramas (consisting of 16-120 episodes that are an hour each). I have picked up a few Korean phrases, but I'm no where near a beginner level of the Korean language. I adore the language and I would love to learn Korean, especially since I plan to visit Seoul once I am in my 20's. Another thing is that my father speaks Persian (Farsi). It is his native tongue, however he only speaks English and Turkish around the house. If I were to ask him to practice Persian with me, I know he would be willing to. Though, he does not know how to read or write the language because he forgot over time. All of my dad's side speaks Persian, so I would be able to get closer to them. I am interested in learning either Korean, Persian (Farsi) or Mexican-Spanish. Based off the languages I already know and the background knowledge you know of me, which language do you think would be easier for me to learn? Or the best, in your opinion and why.
  2. I want to replace my mother tongue (Polish) with English. I live in England, all of my friends are English, I watch British TV, listen to English music, achieved grade 7 at English GCSE, I avoid Polish people (except for my family) and everything related to Poland, but I still think in Polish...can I change it? I hate Polish, Poland and the Polish culture and I really want to make English my primary language. (or Swedish or German or French or Chinese or any other language I know) Do you know any ways to "forget" your native language?

Hi everyone! I'd like to propose to all members of this forum a new section called "Right and Wrong", where every participant who post in here, do that to share a bit about himself; gustos, anécdotas, sueños, etc. to pursue the goal of knowing each other a little bit more and also practice or improve the learning of the wanted language. In this case, I started for "Spanish - English", since I'm a Spanish language native and I'm learning English. La mecánica es la siguiente... If the native language of the participant is Spanish, he will post in that language and then he will do in English dentro del mismo post, but WITHOUT the help of translaters; the real purpose is that he can add comprensión and practice by his own knowledge and the guiding help of the members. Whatever he don't know how to write podrá dejar igual y resaltar en negrita. The participant who answer to CORREGIR will do that offering some examples, so all the people can understand and learn. Of course if the writed post suposedly right is not, it will be corregido as well. As I mentioned this post, I shall start. PS.- The new section name is open to new suggestions.

  10. In a vast yet diversified country like India where dialect and languages vary for every couple of hundred kilometres, English and Hindi remain among the most widely spoken, understood and recognized languages. Along these two languages, English generally connects a lot of people who hail from areas where spoken local languages are completely different from each other i.e. Tamil and Marathi. In such cases, English acts the bridge between the individuals and enables them incommunicating with each other easily. For all other practical purposes also, English is widely hailed and used as a common language across the globe. Therefore learning English language becomes pertinent for any individual who aspires to build his/her career in today’s globalized economy. English language acts as a stepping stone towards success for students of all streams as well as working professionals across all the industry verticals. Developing command over any language including English comprises of developing deep understanding of vocabulary, grammar and pronunciations. Generally English is considered as a funny language because its pronunciations and vocabulary vary alot. Often similarly spelt words have different pronunciations and alphabets remain silent in many words which make the pronunciations very peculiar and it takes consistent time and effort to remember and master them. This primarily happens because roots of large quantum of English wordsoriginate from other languages like Latin, French, Spanish etc. This trait also adds lot of diversity to the language and makes it easy for people across the globe to adapt it. 12. Unity in diversity (Arabic) Our roots are diverse (Western Frisian) Support inclusion (Yiddish) May no ocean separate us (Gaelic) Promote understanding (Georgian) Consider new ideas earnestly (French, preferably a northern dialect) Consider even your supposed enemies (Korean or Mongolian) Fragmentation gives way to animosity (Xhosa) Thrive even through adversity (Any stigmatized creole language, preferably not truly threatened or endangered) Take note of the past (preferably Pennsylvania German. Palatinate German or Standard German would also work, though) Anyone who knows any of the needed languages is encouraged to comment! Thanks to all who help me out!
  13. It's not my site but... I believe you all might find it useful. WordBrewery is a new website that pulls sentences from the news. They are then categorized by level and topic. There's also a search bar so you can find specific words in context. Audio, translation, and the source article are included. It's also possible to save words and sentences to lists, and export these to Anki. It's currently free to use. Like every other app, all you need to do is register. Personally... I use it for German, as it doesn't have Hindi yet. But it's rather nice, because it's hard to find advanced materials for many languages I'm interested in, such as Modern Greek and Arabic. I use it as a warm up and to find context to words. I'm also considering using Anki, so if I decide to, I'll start exporting all my lists. Current Languages: Arabic Spanish French Italian Portuguese English Swedish Russian Serbian Japanese Modern Greek Polish Hungarian Ukrainian Norwegian Korean Chinese German

(I AM NOT FLUENT IN ALL THOSE LANGUAGES)- I would like to warn you guys, I don't consider myself as a Polyglot, and any other fuckery related to it. I just do something I like, and I really like this stuff. (I really enjoy learning languages, and practicing them with people.)This is not everything guys. Stay tuned for more videos. I am preparing for you guys, such as Level up videos.Any critical commentary, negative ones as well as positive ones are warmly welcome, in addition I am not perfect or that good in most of those languages, so any advice outragiously will be taken and accepted by me.My best regards, and hope you enjoyed this video.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/setuarpFacebook Fan Page: https://www.facebook.com/setuarp/Twitter: https://twitter.com/setuarpFacebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/765125346839301/
  16. Hi! My name is Fabio, I started study languages by myself 3 years ago. As the most of you (I guess), I want to learn languages by pleasure, so I don't see any reason to pay for that... but this is like a stone inside my shoes (Brazilian proverb), all of the good resources that I have found are paid. Well, I had two options, pay and use it or don't pay but don't use it! I choosed the third one, create my own website with all the resources that I judge important to learn a new language. I call this website LangLovers.com, now it's in a beta stage and I want to invite all of you to try it and help me to improve the quality of this website. The main purpose of LangLovers.com is create a community of language learners, the website will be free of charge (of course!), but I pretend to receive donations or implement some Ads to specific pages, because some money is necessary to keep the website working (host, domain and etc...), I have created it by myself and I don't have much experience with website development... This is also an invitation for website developers that are language learners, if you want, you can help me to make it better sending me usefull code snippets. All the content of the website will be created by the community, and the community will help each other’s to improve your language skills. The “content” means: Texts Audio Corrections Dictionaries Chats Link here: http://www.langlovers.com This is a list of the supported languages available now: English Spanish French Italian Portuguese Romanian German Japanese Chinese But I'm still adding more languages. Hope to see you soon! Sincerely, Fabio

  19. I'm surprised nobody has listed this app yet. I use it mostly for learning Japanese but from time to time I also use it for brushing up on my Spanish. I guess you can say it is kind of like Duolingo except you get to choose which course you would like to learn. There are points and you can share your progress on social networks as well. You can register online first (recommended) and then sync up the app on your mobile device. My favorite thing about Memrise is that there is more to learn than just languages, you really just need to see it for yourself. Oh and the courses are written by other users so you get a chance to learn slang and other things. Seriously, go and check it out! www.memrise.com
