## What does “cursed” mean online?

Online, **cursed** describes something that is unsettling on purpose, or wrong in a way that is hard to put into words. The word spread with “cursed images”: odd photos that leave you uneasy without showing anything truly frightening. From there it stuck to anything that feels off, from cursed comments to cursed pizza toppings.

**Cursed text** is writing with that mood. You can still read the letters, but they look haunted, with marks growing out of the top and bottom of every one. People also call it creepy text, scary text, demon text or void text. It looks like this:

## How to make cursed text

1. Type your words into the box. Short works best: a name, a title, a single line.
2. Scroll to the six ready-made styles and tap the one you like. That copies it, ready to paste.
3. To shape it yourself, use the **Make it your own** panel. The **How glitchy** slider runs from 1 (subtle) to 20 (chaos), and three checkboxes, **Above**, **Through** and **Below**, choose where the marks go.
4. Tap **Shuffle** for a different random set of marks, and **Copy** when it looks right.

Two settings are worth trying for a spooky look, both at strength 8:

## Frequently asked questions

**What is void text?**

Void text is another name for cursed text: letters carrying so many stacked marks that they seem to dissolve. Use the Heavy Glitch style, or push the slider toward 20, to get the look.

**What is demon text?**

Demon text is a nickname for the same effect, usually in its heavier form. It is ordinary text with stacked accent marks and has no hidden meaning.

**Is cursed text safe to copy and paste?**

Yes. It is plain Unicode text and cannot carry a virus or run code. The only real risk is annoying people, so keep it short in shared chats.

**How do I make cursed text easier to read?**

Use the Light Glitch style, or lower the slider to 3 or less. Unticking Above or Below also helps, because the marks then stay on one side of the letters.

**Can I use cursed text for Discord nicknames and role names?**

Yes, both take pasted Unicode text. Keep to the light styles, since names appear small in the member list. Discord usernames themselves only allow plain lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods.

**Will cursed text show up on every phone?**

The styles use ordinary letters with stacked accent marks, which current phones display. A very old device, or an app that strips combining marks, may show the text plain.

**How do I turn cursed text back into normal text?**

For a word or two, delete it and type it again. For longer text the combining marks have to be stripped out, which the Zalgo Text Generator page explains.

**Can I make cursed text red or dripping?**

No. Cursed text is made of characters, so the app you paste into decides its color and typeface. For colored or dripping letters you need a real horror font in a design program.
