# Rhyming Words > Find words that rhyme with any word: perfect rhymes first, then near rhymes, words with the same vowel sound, and phrases, with the most common words on top. - Page: https://linguaholic.com/tools/rhyming-words/ - Type: free online tool (Writing tools), no sign-up, runs in the browser - Publisher: Linguaholic (https://linguaholic.com/), made by Marcel Iseli - Last updated: October 2, 2026 - Open it pre-filled: https://linguaholic.com/tools/rhyming-words/?q=orange - `q`: the word to find rhymes for (for a phrase, its last word is used) (for example `orange`) - `syl`: only show rhymes with this many syllables, 1 to 5 (for example `2`) ## How the rhyme finder works Type any word and the **rhyming words** finder lists what rhymes with it, starting with the perfect rhymes and moving outward to looser ones. It works from pronunciation, not spelling, so it knows that *through* rhymes with *blue* and that *love* doesn’t rhyme with *move*. It covers about 51,000 words and 7,000 names and places. 1. Type a word. If you type a phrase, the rhymes are for its last word. 2. Read down the sections: perfect rhymes first, then near rhymes, then words that only share the vowel or only the ending. 3. Tap a word to see what it means, copy it, or jump to its own rhymes. **Copy list** copies a whole section. 4. Narrow the results with the syllable filter, or widen them with **Rare words** and **Names & places**. ## Perfect rhymes, near rhymes and slant rhymes Take *rib*. Only a handful of words rhyme with it exactly, but dozens come close. The finder sorts them into kinds, so you can decide how strict to be: | Kind of rhyme | What matches | For “rib” | | --- | --- | --- | | **Perfect rhyme** | Every sound from the stressed vowel to the end | crib, bib, fib, glib, lib | | **Near rhyme** (slant rhyme) | The same vowel, and a consonant from the same family (b/p, b/d/g), or an added -s or -ed | ship, trip, big, kid, ribs | | **Same vowel sound** (assonance) | The vowels match; the consonants are free | give, him, fish, win, this | | **Same ending** (consonance) | The ending matches; the vowel differs | job, club, describe, disturb, grab | Longer words work the same way. For *happy*, the perfect rhymes are unhappy, snappy, scrappy; the near rhymes include shabby, abbey, tabby, crabby, flabby; and words with the same ending but another vowel include copy, sloppy, floppy, nippy, hippie. Songwriters and rappers lean on these looser rhymes all the time, because a natural near rhyme usually sounds better than a forced perfect one. ## Frequently asked questions **How does the rhyme finder work?** It looks up how your word is pronounced, not how it is spelled, and finds every word with the same sounds from the stressed vowel to the end. That is why it knows 'through' rhymes with 'blue'. After the perfect rhymes it lists near rhymes, words with the same vowel sound, and words with the same ending. **What is the difference between a perfect rhyme and a near rhyme?** A perfect rhyme matches every sound from the stressed vowel to the end, like rib and crib. A near rhyme, also called a slant rhyme, is almost the same: the vowel matches and the final consonant is a close relative, like rib and big or rib and ship. **What rhymes with orange?** Nothing rhymes with orange perfectly among everyday words. The closest near rhymes are storage, forage, porridge and foreign. Purple, silver, month and wolf have the same problem; type any of them to see their closest rhymes. **Why does the finder ask how I say a word?** Some words are pronounced two ways, and each has different rhymes: read rhymes with need or with bed, live with give or with drive, wind with pinned or with find. Pick the pronunciation you mean and the rhymes change. **Can I find rhymes with a certain number of syllables?** Yes. Use the syllables filter to show only one- to five-syllable words, which helps a rhyme fit the rhythm of a line. **Does it find rhymes for names?** Yes. You can type first names, surnames and place names, and switch on Names & places to see names among the results as well. **Why are some words missing from the results?** Rare and old-fashioned words are hidden until you switch on Rare words, and swear words and crude terms are left out. You can still type those words to find rhymes for them. **Is the rhyme finder free?** Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and it runs in your browser: the words you type are not sent anywhere. ## Data sources Word data: Linguaholic’s English dictionary, built from the open ENABLE and SCOWL word lists, the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary (pronunciation and syllables) and Princeton WordNet (meanings).
