Hello Vikki,

The term "modal expressions" does not only refer to modal verbs, but also to adjectives and adverbs which express certainty or obligation (for example: the adjectives possibleprobable or certain, or the adverbs possiblyprobably or certainly). The informal expressions for sure or for certain are also modal expressions, and verbs such as to be sure to or to be certain to have a modal meaning.
