I don't want to sound too pedantic, but that is factually incorrect, the most common spoken language right now is, by far Chinese (All Mandarin branches) if you count native speakers, Spanish comes at second with half the speakers of Chinese. If you count by total number of speakers, that is, people that speak the language to some degree (as a second language) then English comes at first (not surprisingly) with over 2 billion speakers, and Spanish falls to the 5th place.
