Easier for an Ancient Greek reader to learn Modern, or the other way around.

I was under the assumption that Ancient Greek was more complex, therefore it would be simple for someone who has studied ancient Greek to learn modern Greek. Would anyone like to comment on their experiences transitioning from one to the other.

It is true that if you know Ancient Greek it is much easier for you to understand the complexity of language. Almost every word in Modern Greek has its roots in ancient Greek vocabulary. However, in my personal opinion, it is easier to understand ancient Greek if you have experience in modern.
