Verbs in Filipino is indeed confusing. But I'll try my best to teach you.

Past Tense

If the verb begins with a vowel, you have to add 'um' as its prefix.

If the verb begins with a consonant, you have to add 'um' after the first letter.

Example:

Inom (drink), will become: Uminom (drank)

Kain (eat), will become: Kumain (ate)

Future Tense

You're probably wondering why I'm showing Future Tense first before Present Tense, but you'll understand why.

Repeat the first syllable of the verb.

Example:

Inom, will become: iinom (will drink)

Kain, will become: kakain (will eat)

Present Tense

If the verb begins with a vowel, you have to add 'um' to the beginning of the future tense of the verb.

If the verb beings with a consonant, you have to add 'um' after the first letter of the future tense of the verb.

Example:

Inom: Future Tense of inom is iinom: So present tense would be umiinom (drinking)

Kain: Future Tense of kain is kakain: So present tense would be kumakain (eating)

That's the basics, there are actually more to learn such as adding nag- and mag-. But even I am not familiar with what exactly the rule is.

Thanks for this :) I'm always interested in learning more of the Tagalog grammar to help me speaking the language, and stop getting mixed up. This really helped
