Have you ever found a free AI tool that actually surprised you?

Last weekend I needed to edit a photo for a small side project, and I didn’t want to install heavy software. I tried a couple of random tools, but most of them were either super limited or pushed paid plans right away. Has anyone here actually found a free AI tool that feels useful without instantly hitting a paywall? I’m not looking for anything crazy, just something that works well for simple tasks and doesn’t feel sketchy.
