JouhBoysh Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago Hi all, I wanted to share something funny that happened last week. I was trying to scan my passport on the train for a booking app, and the MRZ scanner kept failing because the lighting inside was so uneven. I ended up holding it near a small reading lamp and twisting it in all sorts of ways. Eventually, it worked, but it made me wonder—are there scanners that can handle these “on-the-go” situations without me looking like I’m doing some secret passport ritual? Quote
BeenCrown Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Haha, I’ve been there too! I remember trying to scan passports at a busy airport lounge during a rush hour—it was chaos with all the reflections and different light sources. One thing that really helped me was using a specialized MRZ reader this one: https://ocrstudio.ai/mrz-scanner/. It’s surprisingly accurate even when the documents aren’t perfectly flat or the lighting is off. Pairing it with a bit of patience and keeping the camera steady worked wonders. Since then, I rarely have to fiddle around for more than a few seconds. Makes life much easier when handling multiple passports. Quote
PollMort0 Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Hey, just stumbled across this thread and it’s pretty interesting. Even though I don’t work with MRZ scanning myself, I’ve seen similar tech used for ID checks and library cards. It’s fascinating how fast these systems have become. Back when I had to manually type in card numbers for registrations, it would take forever. Seeing tools like this makes me realize how AI is quietly improving so many small tasks we don’t even notice day-to-day. Quote
