Over the last decade, language learning apps have changed how many of us study new languages. Some focus on gamification, some on grammar drills, and others on real‑life conversations with native speakers. What I’ve noticed is that the long‑term success of these apps depends a lot on the development team behind them, not just the content.

For example, an app development company in USA that understands UX for education can make huge improvements in small details like onboarding flows, spaced repetition timing, offline support, and accessibility. These things directly affect user motivation and how consistently learners come back to practice.

I am curious how other language learners here feel about this:

  • Which language learning apps feel the most “polished” and stable to you?

  • How important are performance, design, and notifications compared to the actual lessons?

  • Have you seen any apps that clearly improved after changing or upgrading their development team?

Would love to hear your recommendations and experiences with apps that really got both pedagogy and technology right.

Our approach at Linguicity and Linguicity World is for the reinforcement of language vocabularies through multi-language word games. Both are apps (two-player game and a solo word journey, respectively). The intent is to have players think in more than one language at a time. They really reinforce languages that one may already have some knowledge or interest in.
Image is an example of playing an Irish word for double points for being in the native language at that game level.
