when in a statement:  'they took him' ,  why in  german 'took' comes after 'him'??? how does it work?

The 'took' doesn't come after 'him' in German. I would be better if you wrote the whole sentence, but the part you wrote is translated as 'sie nahmen ihn...'

Do you mean when using the perfect tense? So you'd say "Ich habe [rest of sentence] [past particle of verb]. That's just he way German sentences are constructed.
