  1. Hello Thomas Pendrake, I noticed that you mentioned having found some books in Russian and was wondering if you'd be able to find something interesting for you to read in this on-line Russian library: http://lib.rus.ec Try it, you'll see lots and lots of books there from classical masterpieces to modern creations. Reading is surely the best way to keep the language alive in one's head. Good luck!
  2. Hi caparica007, Try using a virtual Russian keyboard, it may prove to be helpful: http://www.apronus.com/internet/ruskey.htm Удачи!
  3. Hi BlackCaXIII, Russian is a very interesting language to study. If I were you, I would start with learning the alphabet, taking lessons with a "real teacher" at least at the beginning, so that you could hear the way the language should sound and someone could guide you to correct pronunciation and teach you to build "Russian-sounding" sentences. I would also recommend watching Russian movies and cartoons with subtitles to start with, as it will be a great way to build your vocabulary. Cheers!
  4. Hello, There are quite a few web-sites where you can find helpful info on learning Cyrillic alphabet. Here are some of them: http://learn-cyrillic.ehpes.com/ http://www.russianforfree.com/lessons-how-to-read-in-russian-01.php http://www.russianforfree.com/lessons-how-to-read-in-russian-01.php Good luck!
  5. Hello Everyone, It is quite interesting to find out that there are people who are learning Russian nowadays just out of curiosity. I would like to applaud all of you, who have bravely undertaken this challenge. One could say that Russian is so difficult to study, because this is a language full of exceptions. Every rule you learn seems to have a list of exceptions to it and the only way to master these exceptions is simply to learn them. Not so simple a task even for a diligent student! A number of students tell me that the way the words in Russian are stressed "drives them insane". I fully agree, that it is quite possible, as it is harder than it seems to master the correct placement of stress within words. The stress in Russian is mobile and does not follow strict rules. Russian pronunciation is also very difficult to master. Some Russian sounds do not exist in the English language and it takes time and practice to learn to say things correctly. I would be most interested to hear your opinions on what aspects of Russian are challenging to you. May be, we can discuss them and make clear and simple to tackle. Good Luck!
