  1. I haven't tried it just because it's so expensive, so it's  nice to read other's opinions, because I was thinking about possibly taking the plunge and getting it...doesn't sound like I should. I also recently discovered that there are several other apps and sites with the same service for cheaper and possibly better than Rosetta as well.

  2. I think there are parts of the app that are offered for free, but to really get anything out of it, you have to buy the full version. I also think there are other apps/sites that have the same services that Rosetta charges you for for free. Lots of other services that are cheaper but just as good!

  3. I don't think people from inside the US would be able to (they wouldnt know exactly what state or area I'm from, probably) but I think people from other countries would definitely be able to tell that I'm American, haha. I'm pretty good at telling other people's accents and identifying where they're from :)

  4. Tablets/Smartphones can definitely be great learning tools, I have a few apps on my phone! I guess it depends what app you are using as to whether it's helpful or not, because some of the apps I've tried out for the iPhone are really bad. I have a Kindle for reading though and I love it, but I don't use it to help you learn languages as much as I just read on it in English instead. :P

  5. Using the subtitles is really helpful! I've been doing that while learning Japanese, and it's nice to hear exactly how they pronounce everything. Sometimes I turn the subtitles off, and then after I've translated turn them back on to see how close I was.

  6. I know that there's a bit of a  difference between American and UK, but I'm not sure about the rest..I imagine the reason it wasn't the same because different regions have different signs, along with the "accents", that they use.

  7. I'm sure I do! I'm from the Midwest USA and people from New York have asked where my accent is from. Obviously I don't hear it, everyone in this area sounds the same to me, but it just shows that everyone has an accent! I also pick up on accents- I went on a trip to Spain with my school, and our tour guide was Australian. It was really hard when talking to her not to mimic her accent- not on purpose of course, I just pick up on them, but I was afraid she'd think I was making fun and I had to try really hard not to do it!

  8. Not a teacher as such, but my current boss is very strict on grammar and punctuation. He is very well-spoken and picks up on absolutely everything!

When I need to send him an email, I must sit there for half an hour trying to decide if it's of an acceptable standard for him to read.

I know the feeling!  I had a professor in college who was like that, and he wasn't even an English professor, but he sure would nitpick about our grammar. I too had to read what I had written in my papers and stuff over and over again to make sure he wouldn't mark it up with his infamous red marker, haha!

  9. Somebody most likely already said this one, but..

"Not all those who wander are lost"

    ~ J.R.R. Tolkien

I actually have this quote on a bag that I carry, and it means a lot to me, because I've done a lot of wandering in my life (different jobs, different places, trying to figure out where I'm going) but it doesn't mean I don't have any direction. It just means I like to experience life in a variety instead of staying stuck doing the same things forever! :)
