      1. Memrise has been extremely helpful in learning French vocabulary. I use it in conjunction with lingvist.io which is a bit more advanced, but it's new and currently I think you can only learn French and German with it. Memrise was better for the very first hours of learning (lingvist seemed too difficult), now memrise seems too slow.
      2. Same here, the letters were easy enough to learn (and knew most of them from basic Maths & Physics courses already anyway) but I didn't see a point in memorizing the exact order.
      3. Holy Motors if you're into Lynchesque surreal madness. Tell No One (Ne Le Dis À Personne) if you'd like an excellent French thriller-drama. But really TV shows are the best for learning a language. The cop show Spiral (Engrenages) is excellent (but be warned, it's not for the weak of stomach).
      4. I was impressed by how good all the French movies are (Holy Motors is one of my favourites). There is another reason: I'm a Philosophy student, and French is a key language in the Western philosophical tradition (even though it's true that German philosophy is usually considered to be more influential).
