  1. For me it is definitely Kanji, Hirigana, and Katakana. It's so hard for me to remember or understand that I mostly stick to romanization. Which I know in the end won't be good because I will need to be able to read the actual characters for Japanese reading, but I can't bring myself to study it.
  2. I've tried Rosetta Stone at a friends house on a couple of occasions and it was pretty good. I could follow along with it rather easily. I'm not sure if it is worth the money as I don't have it and use it for myself, and I also don't know much about other language learning apps as I usually just use free webpages and audio that I find online.
  3. I have never heard of him either. I usually use different methods for learning and practicing languages. I have tried Rosetta Stone though, and that works pretty good.
  4. If it is a child, I have always found it best that children learn really well from songs and cute little dances that interact with the song. Being repetitive always works as well. I am not sure if you have already tried this method or not. My mother used to teach through made up characters that would act as if they didn't know something well enough and that would cause the other children to say "No! It's ___!" so by them trying to help the character in distress, they would be learning without knowing it. Just try to be confident in whatever method you choose fits best for the person you are trying to teach.
  5. Thank you so much for the warm welcome, I'm really happy and excited to be here. I'm hoping to learn a lot.
  6. Yes, this has happened to me! A long time ago I had an assistant manager who was Spanish and very frequently when she was on the phone she would be speaking Spanish. We used to talk all the time, but I was always too embarrassed and nervous to actually ask her about the language and some things I was curious about. It's a funny feeling indeed.
  7. Hi all, I'm super excited to have found this place. Language learning has always been important to me, but for some reason I could never learn it all by myself. I'm hoping that I can meet other members who share the same passion of language learning, and maybe even help each other out on journey to learning our preferred languages. I'm very friendly so feel free to say hi!
