  1. Yep. I gave up on learning both Chinese and Esperanto. Chinese was really hard and I found the lack of an alphabet to be a huge drawback for beginners. I also had some trouble to tell the tones apart when listening to native speakers, which was really frustrating. To be fair, I didn't stop learning Chinese all of a sudden. Little by little, life just took over, and I felt no real urge to carry on with my learning process and resume my studies. Esperanto, on the other hand, was quite easy, but I suddenly came to realize that most people I was speaking Esperanto with also happen to speak English fairly well, so I felt that learning a new language to talk to people I could already speak with was a bit redundant.
