Learning through gaming

I kind of went the other way, I started learning Japanese because I play a lot of JRPGs and other Japanese-only games, and I wanted to be able to play them even if there was no translation or localization available, or at release because I didn't want to wait for the chance of there being a translation. Even just being able to read the menus and skills make a lot of games playable, from not knowing what the hell to do.

I love using video games to learn Japanese, though it took me ages to get to the point where I could understand enough to play them. It's so, so great for vocab study and proper word usage.

Board games, though, would be hard without a partner. Though, Cards Against Humanity is in other languages?.... Man, if I had Japanese speaking friends, I would so play that with them.

I´m from Mexico and I learned English many years ago, but not by gaming, just for oral and written repetition. In my case, I really think gaming is a good way to learn vocabulary but in schools ( here in Mexico) usually teachers do not use this tool, especially because in many schools there is no internet connection and students do not have the items to practice it at school. That is why in Mexico sometimes is very difficult to learn a new language, and you need to pay for extra classes to learn the new language.
