The phrase "code à barres" is the correct saying for "barcode" however, it is considered too formal. Most of the time when talking about the barcode of an item, just mentioning "à barres" can make the point. It may not be grammatically correct, but once you know the language well, you begin to short-hand it- just like English. It is considered singular and not plural because you are referring to one barcode (even if multiple items have it). Quote
