Funny Spanish phrase I can't get a translation for

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I've started trying to read Spanish news sites to improve my reading. I'm not quite at the standard where I can read the serious news, so am stuck with tabloids and gossip sites. So there's an old guy in Spain who is famous for something, and he's recently started dating a very young woman. A headline this morning about them says "La novia de Matamoros le tiró los tejos a una persona muy conocida de un reality".

What does "tirar los tejos" mean? I'm getting as far as people throwing yew trees, quoits and hopscotch at each other which, although entertaining thoughts, are almost certainly not idiomatic.
