You have to enjoy it. Most of the time, the things you enjoy doing do not require that you force yourself to stay focused. Once you truly enjoy the process of learning, you won't have to remind yourself to "stay focused," it will happen naturally. The way to do this is to be persistent at first. Learning a language is like taking up a sport, let's say running. The first month is probably going to be painful; each run is going to ask for a lot of effort, but after a month, you won't be able to picture yourself not going for your run. Once it becomes routine and most of all, enjoyable, you'll never stop, and you won't need to exert yourself.

It's a challenge to stay focused sometimes, there is so much going on to distract us. But, keep coming back. If you lose your motivation for a day, a week or a month, just bring yourself back. Remind yourself of why you wanted to learn this new language in the first place. Hang a photo of the country or something that reminds you of the language where you can see it daily. Don't beat yourself up if you fall behind on your goal, just keep coming back!

You got to love and enjoy what you're doing. I think those are the keys to staying focused. It's like watching a drama or anime. You tune to it everyday, you keep coming back, because the plot excites you; you're enjoying the show.

If you're trying to learn a language and you get stagnant for weeks or months, try to reevaluate why you're even studying that in the first place. If you just have to, but don't really want to, then it might be difficult for you to advance in what you're learning.
