  1. Yeah I think to be good in a langauge you have to use it everyday, otherwise it will be hard to get the hang of it.

Yes, true that. You have to bring it to your life as well. I tend to practice English with my GF even though it's not as good as her's. I still fumble a lot, but I ma improving. Also, writing more is a big help.

  2. हाँ लेकिन मुझको शाहरुख़ खान ज़्यादा पसंद है. मेरे ख्याल से सलमान अभिनय ख़राब है.  "दबंग" बहुत अच्छा फिल्म है! हाहा चुलबुल पाण्डेय

Nah,  mujhe Shaarukh khan ki acting bilkul pasand nahi. Magr jahan tak Salmaan ki baa hai, I am a big fan.

  3. I decided to learn Hindi because I have always had a huge interest in India and Indian culture. Even from a very young age  I always preferred Indian movies, music, food, clothes, and I always been very interested in Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism. Even my room is decorated in Indian style!  I really don't know what it was that made me start to learn I just picked up a book on Hindi one day at the bookstore and started learning.

So, i was instinctive, wasn't it? I started learning because I had to as it's my native language.

  4. For me, I had use course books with audio. When I first started learning Hindi there was absolutely nothing to learn Hindi with except books and the only modern book for it I found was the Teach Yourself Hindi series by Rupert Snell. So I ended up using that when I first started and I was young and didn't really know how to teach myself a language and he uses a lot of grammar terms I didn't understand so I used to just copy sentences and read the dialogues. When I got older I ended up going through the book (and I still look it at it now!) but now I use grammars, workbooks and I try to translate songs and dialogues from films. I also read newspapers and websites online, but it's kind of sad that there isn't  a lot of websites available in Hindi :(  I also get Hindi statelite channels here so I try to watch them as much as possible, listen to Hindi music, watch the movies etc. My parents also got me Hindi Rosetta Stone and I'm on level 2 in it now and I don't know how good it really is but it is definitely helping. I also go to many Indian shops around here and try to speak to workers only in Hindi, which sometimes is hard because for some reason around here we have tons of Guajarati's that say they understand Hindi but can't speak very well. My goal is to hopefully be fluent in Hindi/Urdu one day, I like to learn phrases in a lot of languages but the only I want to be fluent in is Hindi/Urdu

Wow, you have tired a lot of stuff in the past, haven't you? Keep it up :)

I can say the same for English language.  few months ago, my English was really broken, but I have  improved a lot in such a short span of time :)

  5. There are so many members in this forums and everyone is learning two or more languages. Heck some people know more than 5 languages! It's crazy!

I have noticed that there are some members who have learned or learning Hindi. I was curious as to why you have chosen to learn this language?

  6. कल मैंने "लूटेरा" देखा। बहुत अच्छी फिल्म थी! सोचती हूँ इस एक मेरी पसंदीदा फिल्मों है.

I hate to be the poker, but the right sentence would be " Kal maine 'lutera' dekhi. Bahut achhi film thi. Ye meri pasandida filmon main se ek hai.

Maine aapke waakya thode sah kar die :)

  7. Wow! This is an awesome link! Thank you so much! I was looking for somewhere to read Hindi online and could not find it at all. Thank you sooo much for these links.

Premchand was a great writer. It's a pity that he passed away so early in his life. I am glad that other will be able to read it too.

  8. Not really. It refers to someone who has taken up more work than he can handle. A alternative would be having feet in two boats.

I am not sure about that to be honest. I have to find  a good source to know more about it.

  9. Kritghan, arthat kisi ki ki gai madad ko nazarandaz kar dena, aise manushya bahut bure hote hai.

We can't say that these people are inherently bad, but yeah, you shouldn't bother with these people.

  10. No language is easy to master, but Hindi is deffintly easier to master for an English than Arabic, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, or Thai because it is Indo-European which means it is distant cousins to the English language and also disant cousins to French, Spanish, Italian and even closer to languages like Persian. Hindi really presents no gigantic challenges to the English speaker, the only three things that I think are difficult and mess up on are the cases, word order can sometimes to be tricky and the gender. But even in French I have problems with the gender. The other thing for an english speaker that could be imdiating is the script, but even that is learnt eaisly because it is pretty much phonetic. It is not like in Japanese where you have to learn three diffirent scripts, including Kanji which has to be memorized or Arabic where they script does not write vowels and you  have to guess the prounciation.  Arabic grammar is also extreamly complicated, plurals are irregualar, they are called broken plurals and follow a pattern that you can not guess, that means every word you learn you have to memorize the plural version of it. Verbs in Arabic are really complex, they follow many different forms and patterns that often make no sense at all and extreamly confusing. Compared to some other languages Hindi for English speakers is really not that difficult. I just think it gets the reputation of being difficult because a lot of English would never take the time to learn it sadly :(

Good thing that you are an English :) It must have been easier for you to learn Hindi.

  11. For the dogs, you should ask Dharmendraji. His famous dialogue " Kutte tere khoon pi jauanga"  and here is another idiom

" Dhobi ka kutta, na ghata ka no ghar ka" to describe a man who is ignored by all.

Isn't it supposed to mean the one who is in dilemma and in precarious situation?
