I do this a lot. My country has pretty much embraced this idea as well. I mix Tagalog and English a lot.

My friends say I am. Which is probably why I can grasp a new language that fast. My mind is like a sponge sometimes.

"Raining cats and dogs" is one of the few ones I have first learned. It sounded funny the first time I heard it. And when I learned that it means it's raining heavily, it even became more funny!

One of my all time favorites would have to be "Don't count your eggs till they hatch." It's been quite a learning experience to really live with this idiom and so far, I have really learned. I think I've learned it this time.

Not sure if you guys have heard of Pinsler app. I was told it's good that you'll be able to learn a new language if you work with it in just 30 minutes a day. Has anyone tried this?

It's definitely an investment. You get an edge for learning new languages. You can even have a career as a translator and most companies dealing with it pay huge!

This is a simple grammar rule and it's called the Subject Verb Agreement. When the noun is singular, the verb is plural and vice versa. Lots of non-native speakers always make a mistake when it comes to this.

I'm a songwriter and sometimes I create my own figurative meaning on words. It's fun to do it especially for artistic purposes. This is handy for songwriting.

"Its" is a possessive form whilst "It's" is just short for It is. This is like "You're" and "Your". It's a common mistake made by most people.

The British English is more formal and they sound more well versed than the American English kind of way. At least that's how I have observed it. The accent on British English is more thick and strong as well.

I guess it's a common problem but once you get the hang of it, you won't have troubles dealing with it eventually. You just have to focus on the elements on the sentence I guess. This is just like the whole subject verb agreement problem.

I would choose the simplest form to write something to deliver the message. It's better than putting some big words that the reader won't understand. As long as the message is clear then it's good.

I don't think it's going to be a basis of success but it sure will help you achieve an edge in life. If you know how to speak 2 languages, then that will be good for your personality and even in your career especially in business. It's not a bad idea at all to pick up a new language and learn it.

Hebrew is awesome first of all! I would love to learn it as well. And to answer your question, it's possible to learn without going through all the details of the alphabet and other technicalities. You can learn a language just by hearing it all the time and practicing what you hear.

I have never done this. However, I would love to learn how to deal with codes. There are lots of benefits if you learn how to speak in codes.

It's not just that you'll have to learn how to speak Chinese but you must definitely know their alphabet which is the hardest part in my opinion. I don't think I'd completely learn everything about this language however, I can understand them when they are spoken. But still, not fully.

I think I would have to go with Antonio Banderas for this one. His Spanish is so cool and he speaks English very well too! I love both his accents. I think they're all endearing and pretty mellow.

I am guilty of shortening words when it comes to texting. I do it especially to save space. But if I am not really saving on space, I don't do it.

My boyfriend will love this thread as he loves to quote from movies. Almost everyday he quotes something from just about any interesting film he saw. As for me, I like "I just felt like running" from Forest Gump. Never gets old.

I have always loved learning new languages. It's freeing for some reason and I do found real beauty whenever they are spoken. I love my Filipino language. It speaks so much when it comes to freedom.

The first ever word I was spoken my mom told me was "DD". I know it's not even a word! LOL But it turns out that it's what my brain remembered when my mom keeps saying "dede" which means breast when she was breast feeding me. It's even funnier now because my boyfriend calls me "DD" because it's the first letter to my real name. He just doubles it. Lol

My mother tongue is Tagalog and my second language is English. And it's a bit weird that I find my mother tongue a bit harder to learn than English. I learned to speak Tagalog when I was 6 because I was raised as English being my first language.

What other languages have close to the amount of weird rules that English has? I would imagine some of the eastern ones.

I find English to have moderate amount of rules. Compared to Mandarin! It's just nuts with that language.

Do you get your and you're confused? I personally think that it's pretty easy to remember which one to use, but I see it incorrectly used a lot. Mostly by people my own age. You're is there for you are. I think the apostrophe makes it easy to remember, but not everyone agrees. Do you have trouble with this or have you got it down pat? 

It's a common mistake by people. But seriously, it shouldn't be that hard to determine their use. But I'm guilty of falling victim to this madness as well sometimes. Lol
