  1. I have learned English as my second language for serveral years, and my teacher is native English speaker. I will answer your questions as what i have done with my teacher. What things did your teacher do that really helped you? She was very friendly, she usually asked me to pronounce a word so many times if i pronounced wrong. I learned how to talk confidently, how to write research paper, how to listen to key words, how to read long article. What things should I avoid? I think that student learn ESL come from different country so you should expect there culture cause sometime you feel weird what they say. What did you find most difficult about learning English? Writting skill is always difficult to me. There are so many ways you have to learn to make correctly sentences. Research paper usually give me a headach cause i have to work with more than a thousand words in one week. Its very hard for international student. Hope my answer helps you.
  2. Hi! If you wanto study Chinese by yourself I think you should set up a plan to study Chinese. It is not take too much time, but you have to try your best to follow the plan you made. And I think you should take 30 minutes per day to study Chinese. You should watch Chinese TV game show, music show, reality show whenever you have free time. Also download some Chinese song into your mucsic playlist. Moreover, if you have any Chinese free, you should make a conversation with them in Chinese or ask them to fix your pronounciation. Hope this helps!

  4. Have you ever been asked by some one to translate a short movie, music video, or newspaper to check you English level? :frozen: I get used to it so many times, and i have no reason why they want to do that. In my situation, my friends ask me to translate a movie which they are watching without watching subtitle. They ask me to look at somewhere and translate what people say in the Television. I understand 100% what people say on TV but i could not translate very well cause i have to listening what they are saying on Tv while translate to my friends. They checked what i tranlated with the subtitle wether it is correct or not correct!. I feel very disapointed cause its not easy to do it, and they do not understand what I explain. It really makes me stressful. How's about you guys? have you ever been on that case?
  5. In my opinion, I think the best way to study new words as vocabulary is write it down on the sticker and stick it every where in your room or your house as much as possible. I tried that way when i began to study English. I wrote the words, the meaning, practice pronounce those words everywhere and everytime. More over, you should take English class with the foreigner teacher, I'm pretty sure your speaking skill will improve a lots. When you talk with your teacher about new words, it would be easier to remember those words than you study by yourself. And remember that if you do not know how to pronouce, you can use internet or electronic dictionary to check them. Hope my answer helps your skill.

For example: Day 1: Watching movie Day 2: self study Day 3: Listening to music Day 4: Reading news Day 5: Taking language class Day 6: Watching gameshows or reality programs Day 7: Take a day off I think this is make you wont get bored when you learn new language. Good luck!

However, I had no more motivation after 2 weeks, then i gave it up. It happened so many times like until now. Right now, I am also working hard on Chinese again. I hope i won't give up again and able to make my dream come true.
  10. As my dream when I was young, I really want to be able to speak at least two languages ( not included my first language as Vietnamese). I did study English for couple years , now I'm starting to learn one more language which is Chinese. As my Chinese friends said, Mandarin and Cantonese are two types of Chinese language. Mandarin is using in mainland of China, otherwise Cantonese is using in Hongkong. Specially, when i learn Cantonese, I found that there are some words pronouced same as Vietnamese words and it gives me a motivation to study harder on Chinese language.
