  1. I love quizlet. I use it all the time. I really like it for collaboration. I find that being a part of a quizlet group, or class, helps you interact with others and share learning resources. Plus, there is an app for it. At least on my iPhone.
  2. I have lad luck reading Spanish aloud and then listening to what I read. Since I am using more than once sense, there is more of a chance that I will retain and understand it. I find during this doubles the speed at which I learn a language.
  3. My goal is to start learning Tagalog. I began, but got side tracked. I also want to achieve fluency in Spanish this year. I want to be able to interact with the Spanish speaking people around here so I can communicate with them as if I was one of them.
  4. I think the best way to learn a language is through study and interaction. Every day do some studying. Make flash cards, do workbooks and learn something new. Then, when you go out, immerse yourself in the language and pay close attention for what you were just studying about.
  5. I find that learning a little bit of history about an area can enhance the language learning process. I am learning Tagalog so I can speak with my new Filipino friends. Some Tagalog words come from Spanish. Does the rest of the language come from the native culture?
  6. For some people, those who have an auditory learning style, being surrounded by people who speak the language can help a great deal. However, you have to have some basic knowledge of the language. If you know nothing, then frustration would quickly follow, which might hinder the process. If you know basic words and structure, and have a translation dictionary, then you would be surprised at how quickly it all falls together if you are immersed in the language. This happened to me when I was learning sign language and Spanish. Within a couple of weeks, you would be understanding and speaking like you never imagined.
  7. I do not think there is such a thing as learning too many languages. However, if you do not use the language then it will begin to fade. Overtime, it could be a wasted effort. Of course, it is not hard to use different languages. I speak mine to my family and friends. Yeah, they don't know what half of it means, but they ask. In the act of speaking, and then teaching, it can reinforce the language that you learned.
  8. Hello and nice to meet you! Language has been a hobby of mine since my sister got her degree in ASL. I did not think I could learn foreign languages because four years of high school Spanish did not stick. When my sister taught me sign language I discovered that I could learn new languages. It was just HOW I learned that I had to figure out. While sign language and verbal languages are different. I was able to use some of the same techniques to brush up of Spanish. Which I did very quickly. I am working on French right now, which is not hard coming from Spanish. I want to learn Tagalog because I have made a new friend in the Philippines. It is nice to meet everyone.
