Text messages ruined the grammar of most young people. Nowadays, reading a text message is like reading a coded message.

Active and passive sentences are basic grammar lessons. To understand, try to read a lot more books. Also, read examples on-line.

I have to admit that I sometimes wonder where to place a semicolon when I type a sentence on the computer. It get's even more confusing when the examples are not that specific or when the sentences used for the examples are not that applicable.

I am thinking about teaching English in Japan or China under a Disney program, but I have to take the TOEFL. How much does this exam cost? I am pretty poor right now. Is financial assistance available?  :shy:

The only technology that I have seen of that nature is in the movies. In real life, there is only a gadget that can be controlled with the eyebrows and it looks like normal glasses used be people who cannot speak or move.

It depends on the languages they know. If they know a language I find attractive then probably but unlikely because the attractive aspect is not what a person speaks but who is speaking.

I think the only time a new language should be taught in that language is once all the basics are taught.

Ever since I saw the lord of the rings I tried to learn what the elves were speaking and I found a dictionary on-line for the same. Sad to say I didn't understand a single word since the references are mostly to the movie itself so I decided to read subtitles instead.

Reading and writing a new language is the most difficult part. Speaking a new language is basically mimicking whatever you hear so that's not difficult at all.

Chinese is definitely the most difficult language to learn and then there's Greek. Ever heard someone say this maths test looks like it's in Greek, that's someone who had tried to learn the Greek language. :beaten:

A lot of people who write believe that the use of big words helps their credibility as a writer. What you need to remember is your words are what will market your books or columns. Simply understand your target audience and what they would prefer and then make a decision on the style of writing you'll adopt. However, if you're writing for the general public, always use simple words so that you do not discourage readership.

At seventeen, your brain is basically a sponge. Encourage yourself to read books with substance and limit the romance and the sci-fi. You have already developed your imagination and creative side, now is the time to add culture to your thoughts.

To encourage teaching, all you need to do is appeal to their human nature. Tell them what's in it for them. What many teachers fail to remember is what you want in life is not necessarily what your students want. Find out what one individual student wants out of their new language skills and encourage that idea until they become self motivated. Do not tell students what you think they should do with their learning skills, ask them what they want first.

I think all languages can be romantic if the words are used properly. It simply depends on who is speaking and how the words are spoken.

Google translate is not that bad. However, I would never use it for directly translating and sending a text or email and it is not advisable to use Google translate for test reference. This is because when this app is used, it translates words how the program understand what is written and not the mood or even the meaning.
