  1. I could see this being a pretty fun way of learning a language but I think that it might be pretty inefficient. There are a lot of turns of phrase in music that are unique to the medium. I would use it as a supplement to whatever other method you might use. It could definitely be a fun way to learn though.

  2. This is pretty hilarious. I can't remember if I had heard the word before the current use. It makes a lot of sense that it would come from a dance move. It reminds me of 'The Twist'. Of course, the current version of twerking is a lot more sexual I would assume. Maybe not though, I guess I wasn't twerking in those days so I have no real way of knowing.

  3. I text the same way I write. Probably because I'm one of those grammar nazi types. I can't handle having poorly worded sentences coming from myself. There are of course a few exceptions depending on my level of patience that day. In general I definitely try not to use shortcuts or acronyms.

  4. I'm a very fast reader. I think it's just like anything else. It's all about memorization. When you play a sport your brain memorizes muscle movements. When you are reading your brain memorizes collections of words and phrases. The more practice you have reading the faster you will be at it. Of course, there is a limit for each person based on a variety of factors.

  5. I'm not sure what the most suitable language for swearing would be. I might have to go with Chinese. There are a lot of times when I hear somebody that is talking in Chinese where they sound like they're yelling at them. I ask my friends what they said afterwards and they say "Oh, they were telling me dinner is ready." So I might have to go with Chinese.

  6. I'm not sure that the concept of having a pen pal is one that makes sense in the modern era. I had one when I was young, but that was before I could just open up a browser and talk to somebody from across the planet. It probably makes more sense to just message somebody on Skype or on Facebook that you've met through a mutual acquaintance. I know that I have lots of friends from other countries and it is not that hard to meet them, especially if you go to college.

  7. It seems like there are some languages where the native speakers speak faster in general than other languages. For example, Spanish. I've taken a few years of Spanish, but if you ask me to hold a conversation with a native speaker they are generally going to talk way faster than I can understand them. English is a bit of a slower language by comparison.

  8. I think that anything that involves doing something you enjoy doing and learning is a good idea. It gives you extra motivation for learning when you want to know what is going on in a video game and you don't understand the language. In a way it's similar to immersion. If you switch the video game to a different language and try to understand what is happening without subs it could plausibly have the same effect.

  9. I actually think that speaking is the hardest. With writing you can take your time and look stuff up if you need to. Same goes for reading. If you are trying to hold a conversation with somebody you can't look things up. You have to make up sentences as you are talking. For me the process of holding a conversation and trying not to sound like you can't speak is the most difficult.

  10. I really don't think that there are people who can't learn a second language. Unless they have some sort of mental disability. It's all about taking the time to practice. You only get as much out of learning a language as you are willing to put into it. Obviously for people who are younger it might be easier to learn a new language, but with the right tools and motivation anyone can learn.

  11. I'm from the West Coast of the United States which is pretty well known for not having much of a distinguishable accent. Which is probably because most of the time when people are talking in movies or on TV they talk the same as I do. It does vary though, there are lots of people around where I live that have almost a southern accent.

  12. I would definitely like to pursue learning Chinese. It seems like it will be very difficult to do so it will be an interesting challenge. I have quite a few friends that already know the language so I think that will be helpful. I think I would be learning Mandarin, since it seems like the most widespread of the dialects.
