  1. I think I'm a reasonably fast reader, but much faster with physical books than digital text. I devour thick books really fast, I have a few library cards so I can get a decent amount of books stocked up without having to go back every three days. If the subject matter is boring though, I suddenly slow to a snail's pace
  2. For me, 'lol' is sort of an indication of "that's funny but I didn't actually laugh out loud" whereas if I really made some kind of physical reaction (snorting, smiling, or actually laughing) I type HAHAHAHAHAHAAH like some insane maniac. I also use it to ward off awkward situations and lulls in conversations when I have nothing better to say on instant messaging or chat.
  3. I can string together verbal sentences pretty easily and understand grammer and all that, but I really can't write hiragana well because all the characters look really similar to me. I can write the romanji easily though, so for input into digital devices I'm safe, but if I can't read much at all. So I think memorizing the characters first is a lot more helpful than learning the romanji if you want to be able to both read and write.
  4. I've studied Chinese for about 15 years (forced on us in school) and have maintained fluency because of work and conversation that I have to do. Sometimes if people have really heavy accents I have to process a bit before working out which words are supposed to be which ones, but written wise it's pretty easy to understand. I won't say I'm the best, in fact I was one of the bottom in my class, but I'm definitely at a pretty decent standard.
  5. I mostly use pinyin input because it's just so convenient :X I mean, it selects the right phrases for you when you type them in. Handwriting is kinda reserved for real life documents and calligraphy to make things look fancy. All the rigorous training forcing me to remember a huge amount of words in the correct stroke order kinda turned me off writing the characters so I'm kinda biased.
  6. Hey y'all, I'm fluffyducky, and I'm bilingual in English and Chinese. I'm very fluent in English, and reasonably good in Chinese (considering it's my mother tongue....). I can read/write Chinese well, and speak pretty fluently, but my vocabulary is very institutionalized because I never used much it outside of compulsory lessons and to order food. I also understand Canto and Hokkien, which is pretty convenient for watching movies and super long drama shows. Currently I'm studying Japanese, Kanji reading isn't really a problem because it's just Chinese with different pronunciation, but all the hiragana look pretty similar to me and I'm having problems remembering which is which.
