  1. I work at an international dorm where I get exposed to a lot of different languages. The most interesting one is Bulgarian. From what I understand it is similar to Russian, but I like it better. I even know how to saw a few words in the language. I'd love to see a sub-forum on Bulgarian.
  2. I'd definitely say Spanish is the most valuable. It is quickly becoming a universal language. It might even surpass English one of these days. Educators must know that it is on the rise because Spanish is mandatory in a lot high schools these days.
  3. I've always been a little self conscious when it comes to verbally practicing my Spanish because i can't roll my R's. I feel like it makes the pronunciation pf certain words sound wrong. I always wondered if it was something you can learn. Or is it a natural talent that only some people have?
  4. Yay! I'm going to go like the page right now. Facebook is my addiction so it is great that you guys are on there now. What other social media pages do you have?
  5. :amazed: I hadn't heard of this app. It sounds like something worth looking into. I'm definitely excited that it's free! I don't know if I'd rely on it as my sole teacher, but I will check it out. Thanks for helping me discover it!
  6. I studied Spanish in high school. It was only for a semester or two, but I don't really remember too much of it. It seems like it all flew out of my head when I passed the class. I've always wanted to learn the language and I'm working on it now, but those classes were of no help it seems. Am I the only one to study without really learning the language?? Has this ever happened to you?
  7. I've always loved Spanish. Everything sounds beautiful when you say it in Spanish! As far as languages I don't like, surprisingly English is in my top two. I don't hate it, but I find it very bland compared to other languages. It is my native language, so maybe I'm too close to it to appreciate it. The other language I detest is German. The pronunciation of the words are very harsh. I've never liked it.
  8. I certainly hope so. I've always heard that this was true since both languages have a lot in common. That is the main reason i decided to learn Spanish first. Once I have that tackled I'm going to move on to French. I've got my fingers crossed in hopes that learning Spanish will make it easier to get a handle on the language of love.
  9. I think it is not only polite, but necessary. Sure, English is nearly universal, but I don't wouldn't want to be caught in a situation where I need to know the native language of a place for survival reasons and instead be looking in a translation book. Besides that, knowing the language is really the best way to be immersed in the culture and get to know different people.
  10. I'm Mercedes. I love language, but I feel like I'm not that good at learning it. My goal is to find the learning method that works best for me because the verbal style has not worked so far. I would love to speak Spanish and French fluently. I'd add at least one other language to that, but I'm not sire which. Bulgarian is very interesting though and I can speak a few words in it.
