  1. Yeah I'm going to chime in here and agree when everyone says that writing and speaking are different. it depends on the language of course, but generally speaking writing is at large a lot more formal and I think it would benefit to learn both at the same time but maybe treat them separate if that makes any sense.
  2. Immersion is always the best way of learning a language. What I personally recommend is learning a bit of the language and rather than putting yourself smack down in the country that speaks it, I'd go online and chat it up with people who speak it. You'll pick up on a lot of things that way. I'm currently doing that with Japanese and the results are fantastic.
  3. A lot of people say English is the easiest language ever and I don't think that's true at all. For that matter I don't think that there is such a thing as an easiest language but English has a lot of complexities that other languages do not have. To say it is the easiest language is just not a good thing to do.
  4. I learned Finnish awhile ago when I was younger. I was attempting to apply to a school there that didn't offer any English courses so I would be stuck learning the language whether I liked it or not. What amused me in the end is that despite me getting the language down pat I ended up not being able to go due to some pretty big difficulties obtaining a visa. One of these days I am going to totally visit the place, though.
  5. I use duolingo all the time. It's a pretty good piece of software and you can learn a lot from it, although I wouldn't recommend using it exclusively. To truly get a feel for the language I'd say use that in combination with a variety of other learning methods.
