  1. Many thanks Lingua! Names in German are capitalized and Hand is a female sostantiv. I completely forgot zum. ^^ As regard the last one is something like "If you defend my back, I'll defend yours" in English. In Italian something similar is "Si raccoglie quel che si semina" ("you reap what you sow")
  2. I'm just learning some idiomatic expressions in german, I don't know if I rember it correctly! - Er ist bekannt wie ein bunter Hund (he is known all over town) --> this is my favourite! - Aus den augen, aus dem Sinn (out of sight, out of mind. In italian: lontano dagli occhi, lontano dal cuore) - der Tropfen, der das Fuss Überlauf bringt (I don't know if I wrote it in the right way, but it English it should be "the straw that breaks the camel" or something similar. In Italian: La goccia che fa traboccare il vaso) - Ich drücke dir die Daumen (I'll crossed fingers for you. In italian: Incrociamo le dita!) - Ein Hand wäscht die andere (I don't remember in english!) And so more that I don't remember exactly!
  3. Hello! I have a question about this website. I discovered it reading on this forum, I think it's really nice and useful but in the Italian version I have only the English and the French courses. The question is: can I change my started language and put for istance English? Maybe there are more languages for English studends.
  4. Yes! Dante Alighieri, who was born in Florence, created the Italian language as we know today with the famous "Divina Commedia" around 1200. There were some changements, but the basics are the same, even if it is really difficult to understand because it is written in a proper dialect. I came from Toscana and the pricipal city of Toscana in Firenze (Florence). In sud or in nord Italy, language dialects change a lot and sometimes are changed even some grammatical structures. If a person comes to Italy to learn Italian should go mainly in the center, otherwise it might learn wrong grammar rules. Wow! This language is really nice! I would like to learn some African dialects one day, I think that they are really interesting and rich of particular and original idioms!
  5. Hello! Thank you for this information I've never heard about "interlingua" too, but I would like to know more about this because I think it might be an interesting idea. This kind of new language could help everybody to learn better and quickly the other ones. I'll probably search something about it this afternoon! By the time I found this video on YouTube and I admit that it is very understandable https://www.youtube.com/embed/kaoGA-my13k Regards ^^
  6. Thank you very much! I'm sorry for my horrible english, I try to write better than I can! Linguaholic thank you for your availability, I'll probably ask you a lot of things because I need to pass the B2 exam for University, but I need even a great help! ^^ I studied German when I was 11 or 12 years old for 3 years, and than I left it to start again last year! Best wishes
  7. Hello! I didn't find this discussion earlier, I'm really sorry! I wrote in some discussions without presenting me! My name is Beatrice and I'm from Italy. I'm 22 years old and I'm actually studying at the University of Modern Languages in Pisa, Toscana (One of the 21 regions of Italy). I present my self as a dreamer, because I have a lot of ideas, I always wanted to do new activities, new experiences, new travels, new studies..etc. My greatest dream would be travel all around the world, but not only to be a tourist and relax on the white and wonderful Caribbean beaches, but overall to understand foreign cultures and face up with them in all their aspects! I'm actually studying English and German; two years ago I tried to study Russian and I passed the A2 exam succesfully, but as soon as I started the second years I understood that it might be to difficult for me because I didn't like it!! I would like learn French, but first I need to improve my German! So, that's all! Byeee!
  8. I've always had the dream to travel a lot and face up with all the different culteres in the world. Actually I can't realise this dream, because I need a lot of money and a lot of time. Maybe I can't travel everywhere at this moment, but I may start to study the different foreign languages to understand better the different attitudes of the other places and to be ready at the right moment. So I started to learn English better in order to be sure to make me understand once abroad. I decided to enroll in the faculty of Modern Languages to begin my journey to the discovery of other languages.
  9. Hello! I'm Beatrice and I'm from Italy, so my native tongue is Italian. I don't know exactly what is special or amazing in this language, maybe it has a great musicality (like Spanish in my opinion). Words are spoken as they are written, but sometimes there are some couples of words that create strange sounds like "gli" "ghi" "gn", etc.. The amazing thing is the "Florentine dialect", from which arise all the basics of this language (The famous "Dante Alighieri" who wrote "La Divina Commedia" you know?). I'm actually studying at the University of Modern Languages in Pisa (Toscana), and I face up with the linguistics studies of all the languages chosen and even with the Italian one. My native tongue is rich of words borrowed from other languages, like Latin, Greek, Frech, English, German, Arabic etc.. and we use this word even in daily dialogues. It has not an easy grammar, it is often really difficult even for the natives in Italy. We have a lot of verb tenses and cunjunctive in disappearing, just because of the poor or the wrong use. However, I think that the great story from which it borned, makes it a language really rich in meanings! Now I'm dealing with the study of the birth of German and the Germans, and I find it very interesting!
