  1. Aside from reading like it's your job, and watching movies and series till your eyes cross, there's also listening to podcasts on your commute. Find a topic that interests you and ignore the rest of world. It'll make you less frustrated about the traffic and the pervs you encounter. Also, when you have to look something up, pick a website that's fun and lively, like Grammar Girl. Basically, do everything you can to make learning fun. I promise, eventually, grammar will be the least of your worries.
  2. I rely on reviews on Goodreads more than those on Amazon (unless they're verified purchases). I get the feeling that reviewers on Goodreads are more upfront and honest about the books they're reviewing. @anna3101 is right, I do find that there are more like-minded people there than on Amazon. Although I do feel that some people should take it easy on those GIFs. Some are really obnoxious and annoying.
  3. Mom: "Did you enjoy your first day at school?" Daughter: "First day? You mean I have to go back tomorrow?"
  4. I teach Japanese students online and they're usually polite and circumspect. I can't imagine them doing that! Haha. But I guess it's different when it's face-to-face and there's daily interaction. I'm planning on applying for the JET programme, but after reading about that, I'm having second thoughts!
  5. Notting Hill. Hugh Grant is usually rather good at playing bumbling Englishmen who are adorable but don't seem to know it. Julia Roberts was believable as the poor little rich superstar (which probably wasn't a big stretch for her). But it was the supporting characters that made the movie. The wit, the repartee, the camaraderie ... they were perfect.
