  1. Probably not a primary, but a helping tool for people who have difficulties with listening to a teacher or studying from the book by themselves. Apps are not that reliable and you can't ask questions from anyone which makes it kind of hard to learn as much as with a teacher. The app only gives you answers to questions it knows so apps don't teach more than what books would - probably even less! It's also expensive to buy learning apps and most of the time you tend to forget that they're there on your phone or tablet. Flashcard type of apps are good thought, those are the ones that I use in my daily basis. They're just helping me to study on the go since I'm a busy little lady!
  2. Happens to me with Swedish since it's a language we are forced to take. I think it has something to do with my unwillingness of learning it but I can be wrong since I've actually tried to get myself to understand. Over the years I caught some things by heart but not enough for me to understand it on a normal conversation. I've noticed that if I make learning fun I'll actually pick something and will be able to use the language more freely. The activities that I like to do are watching TV shows without subs and translating song lyrics. Those things make me remember at least somehow.
  3. I used to study Japanese for a year and few months and I've completely forgot kanji to be honest. Nowadays I can remember only few which disappoints me a lot since I really wanted to learn for a lifetime. Chinese helps a bit but I'm only learning the basics at the moment so I wouldn't say that I'm winning with that.
  4. If I need to translate separate words I use this Finnish translator sanakirja.org that has a large vocabulary. Google translator is good for longer sentences but only from English to the language I want it to be and vice versa. It's pretty effective to be honest, even when people claim it's not that accurate and gives you pretty much false translations. I personally use it for Swedish essays and such and noticed it's really good.
  5. I want to be able to communicate wherever I'm in the world. I think it's fascinating to understand different languages and to be able to change between them just like that. It's hard to get a grip from learning at first but when you get into learning you just can't stop. Before you even notice you're speaking fluently a language you didn't understand a word few years before.
