amandak
Along the lines of centre, theatre has the same issue. Also, favourite vs favorite and colour vs color. Otherwise, the most common misspellings I see are: definitely, restaurant, and separate.
pahagwl
There are a lot of words in English which are generally spelled wrong by the general public. These words are spelled wrong due to the confusion which is caused by the similarity in the pronunciation of different spellings of that single word. The most commonly mistaken words include receive and center.
Rosa
I don't think we should go ahead and blame English Language for the words that seem to have a wrong spelling. After all, the root of the word, whether it be British, American, Latin, etc. causes the spelling of these words to be different.
Dora M
For me it's "women" and "men". So many of my friends whose native language isn't English forever make the same mistake, saying "womans" and "mens", which seems a lot more logical than the unusual pronunciation of "women" and "men".
