Hello everyone. I hope to get my head a little clearer on trying to understand the meaning and or correct use of an example I used in conversation.

It was “ schlaf gut” and I responded to my friend und dich.

I understand that und dich is incorrect as he tired to explain that this can not be the Akkusativ ( object ) in this case.

May someone explain can I use either du or dir?

I am so confused with something so simple and appreciate some help please.

      Dankeschön.

"und du" and und dich" are both wrong in this case.  You would need to say. "du auch" or "(danke), gleichfalls" in this case.
