Dame6089
I haven't read Don Quijote since high school. I would like to read it again, but don't to translate every word. Is there a side by side spanish english version of Don Quijote? If not, what is the best english translation of the book?
MyDigitalpoint
I would say that the version found inside the Gutenberg Project is a good English translation of Miguel de Cervantes work. You can find the English version here, http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/996And the Spanish version here, http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2000You can download both to your computer for a comparative reading if you want.Don't think there is a side-by-side version of Cervantes nor Shakespeare works. Just so you know, there are side by side versions of Shakespeare. We used one in my highschool to read Romeo and Juliet.
MyDigitalpoint
No problem Dame, and thanks for the heads up about side-by-side versions of Shakespeare works.Certainly it's always useful do this type of comparisons to improve our understanding on them
Michelle
I enjoyed reading this book. There's actually an app that makes it easy for you to read the Spanish and English versions side by side. If you have an iPad, that makes the whole process much easier, since you can read whenever you have free time. The app is called Side By Side. You will have to go to Project Gutenberg to get the English and Spanish version of the book and then you'll be good to go! The Side By Side app is free. Just also try to google around for "Don Quijote English Full Text" or simply read in Spanish and translate as you go. What I would do back when I was reading Don Quijote is read X number of pages in English, then go back and read them in Spanish to get exposed to how the book was really written. It's almost like translating every word but if you've read the English version first you don't have to keep googling words, you'll have some clue to what they mean and you'll be able to continue on.
