I wonder if anyone has butchered idioms more than George W. Bush Jr. Maybe me.

What are some weird ways you've misused idioms in the past?

I have always been the kind of person who is excessively worry about using idioms correctly whatever the language I'm using, so no, I could not say of any weird way I have used in the past or today.

Incorrect: "All intensive purposes"

Correct: "All intents and purposes"

Incorrect: "Tender loving care"

Correct: "Tender love and care"

Incorrect: "Wrecking havoc"

Correct: "Wreaking havoc"

Incorrect: "Free reign"

Correct: "Free rein"

Incorrect: "Chester drawers"

Correct: "Chest of drawers"

Correct: "I couldn't care less"

True, there are some idioms that are often confused such as "Opposite to" rather that "Opposed to"

When I was wee lad, 6 or 7, I used to say something like "sumanagun" or "sumanab****" instead of "son of a gun/b****". I knew it was an insult, but I didn't know what it meant.

I had a friend who used to tell people that she couldn't have dairy products because she was "lactose AND tolerant." I think she finally figured out around age twelve that she was not, in fact, an open-minded milk sugar.

I always use these right except for one, "free rein". I get why it is "rein" and not "reign", but I always assumed it was "reign" because of kings and queens reigning.
