Is there a language that you started studying and then gave up on? Why did you make this choice? Was the langouste too hard  or did you just loose interest. What language did you decide not to continue learning?

I really enjoy watching foreign films. I can't stand viewing the ones with dubbed voices , there is something that seem unnatural about voice that don't match actor. Hearing the film with the sounds and voice in the original from is so much better. I feel like I am learning and getting a piece of foreign culture when I see the movie the way it was intended to be viewed.

I have been trying to learn two languages at once. I don't think that this is working for me . I feel like I am picking up a little of this and a little of that. I think that if you focus on a single task at time you will be able to excel one language at a time.

I have heard that if you go to sleep listening to the language that you will learn it a lot faster.  I think that there is something to be said for listening to it.  I don't personally have the patience to just listen to it for a year without immersing myself in the culture and reading and meeting people, but I do know that listening to it really helps with the accent and it also helps to understand the words faster.

I have also heard that listening to language in your sleep will help you get a better grasp on learning. I have never tried this but have always been tempted.There is no telling if it really works but it could not hurt. I think what really works is the whole pratice of repetition.

When I text I write everything out in complete sentences. I don't use text talk or any type of short hand ,although I do understand it. I don't always us punctuation. I think it is a horrible idea to get in to the of habit  producing lazy writing even casually.

When you write poetry you are granted something call poetic licence. This means the general rules of grammar, verb tense and other parts of speech can be relaxed in order to make a poem flow.

Children can start learning different languages as infants. If you speak more than one language make sure to use both when talking to your child even when they are still infants. This way you don't have to teach them they simply absorb all the languages they are exposed to.

How would you rate your pronunciation ? Do Korean words come easily for you or do you struggle to get the sounds and accent right? Do you have a special way of practicing , is there someone you available to help you improve?

I would be terrified to flirt with someone in a second language evens after I had mastered it. Some things just don't translate the same and i would be afraid I come across as rude or be laughed at. No thank you I will stick to embarrassing myself in my first language.

When I started learning Spanish ,I had a hard time keep some simple words straight. I started using music to help me drill some of the vocabulary and verb conjugations in my head. I would put on my headphones and sing whatever I was working on. Somehow this helped.

I think texting has played a major role in the decline of people's spelling skills. So many people have gotten used to using abbreviation and texting short hand , that they have forgotten what the proper spelling of some words look like. Writting the full actually word has become a rarity. I think it time we all got out the spelling books studied our words for Friday's test , like we used to back in Elementary school.

If I were to have children I would most definitely teach them to speak all the language I speak. Children have the amazing ability to be able to easily learn several different languages all at once. Giving your children the gift of being multilingual is a wonderful accomplishment. In the end they will be on a level far above some of their peers.

I think we start learning a second laguage very late in school  here in the US. Most schools don't start teaching a second language until the 7th grade some most of us are teenagers by the time we get started.

Thankyou for posting this. I do alright when it comes to learning to speak words and phases but reading Hangul has been a real challenge. While I have progressed in other areas when it come to learning korean, I have been a a stand still with my reading progression. This is going to be such a great help.

The hardest thing for me is to do is learn to read and write a language. I can memorize vocabulary with the help of flash card and app's. The more I listen to a new language the easer it becomes to recognize and understand. Finding someone to help me practice  my pronunciation is to terribly difficult. However when it comes to learning how to become literate in a brand new language  , feel like I am in first grade all over again trying to make since out of letter and sounds  :frozen:

When most people choose a to learn a new language they select something like french or Spanish. There is never any doubt why someone would choose to study those languages. However when you tell someone that you are learning Korean ,  they ask you why , or  maybe the stare at you strangely . People seem to have a hard time understanding why anyone would take up a language only spoken in one country. How do people react when the find out you are learning Korean ? What reactions have you received?

What made you want to learn to speak Korean and when did you become interesting in learn. How long have you been working on mastering this language.

One of may favorite idioms is " Monkey See, Monkey Do "

This means to doing something for no other reason than having seen someone else do that same thing first. The traditionally apply's to bad behavior.

When I was in middle school the students were speaking some made language called OBB. Everyone thought it was really cool to  be able to talked in front of the teachers, and not be understood. I never bothered to learn , it was a short lived fad ,and everyone soon lost interest in a couple of months.

It looks pretty fun and actually helpful (it's suprisingly difficult to find a good hangul reading tutorial, let alone one that doesn't make it look like an impossible nightmare), I might try it later

You have no idea how much i appreciate you're sharing this link. I do  pretty good job pick you the actual speaking of the language ,but when it comes to reading and writing hangu I am lost. This looks like it will be a great help.

Has anyone here tried Live Mocha ?  Its an interactive language learning site. I am told that is similar to Rosetta stone., although that I cannot verify because I have never used Rosetta Stone. This sight is a fun easy and free way to learn Korean or many other languages . I have using it to help me improve my pronunciation ,because it says the word out loud for you.

Its great when people take interest in other cultures and language  :grin:It just concerns me when we look at it as fad or trend , and people don't stop to really get and good understanding or appreciation. When POP culture gets a hold of something they the turn it into to something kitschy are sometimes not very true to authenticity.
