  1. I am not a foreign language teacher , but I do teach. Find out what appeals to you student and take advantage of it, find ways to work your student's interest in to lesson plans. Find some simple games that you student can play to prevent boring memorization by repetition . Don't forget to offer up a few simple prizes like candy and stickers. Complement them when they are successful.
  2. When I was in middle school I was taking a French class , I hated every minute of it. One day we had a substitute and she gave us a list of words to put in to a short story. This was one lesson plan I really enjoyed , I think I learned more in one day from that single lesson than I had learned the entire class. For the first time I felt confidant in the use of a new language and was motivated to use what I had learned.
  3. Do you use any instructions aids that are not found on an or web site ? Do you still make flash cards or make drawling to help memorize and study you new language?
  4. Rosetta stone was offering up a free trial of their service. I do think that this is just to suck people in to buying the full program , I would not be suprised to see add ons go on sell a some point in time for this app. However as long as it is free why not take adavntage.
  5. There is nothing wrong with self learnig. You are able to learn at you own pace and spend time focusing out the area of study you need most. You can tailor your education to a style that best fist your learning ability. Sure having someone to teach you is of great benifit ,but there are also adavanatges to being self taught.
  6. I have never thought about doing this. Right now I am more focused on learning to speak and understand a new language rather than learning how to read and write a new language. In time I will work on reading and writting more and I may look in to this idea.
  7. I find the best way to pratice is to find online resources that teach langauge and look for quizzes or learning games.
  8. They are making cursive more and more obsolete every day. Pretty soon cursive is going to go the way of short hand. We are going to be able to written in secrete code by just using plain old cursive. A number of the schools have dropped cursive form the mandatory curriculum.
  9. There a Spanish learning video series that is in the form of a Soap opera it is call Destinos. If you do an online search you can find this show. There is also a text book to go along with the series.
  10. I have heard nothing but great things about Rosetta stone. I have even tried out a demo of their program and I enjoyed using it to learn. The high price point of Rosetta Stone is a real turn off. It is a shame that the don't make a more affordable product. I try to find a used version on line.
  11. I think the best motivator for learning another language would be necessity. If yuo were thown in to a situation where you need to speak another language in order to survive or commincate with everyone else around you. You never know what you are capable of until you are faced with a challenge.
  12. You can go on the internet and find pictures that illustrate the word and the spelling.Make poster or large flash cards. People tend t o hold on to an idea if thay are able to realate back to a tangible example.
  13. When I was in elementary school we had an exchange student program. Students in grades 5 and 6 Went to France. They would meet once a week and study the langauge one of the man resourses the teacher liked to use was muzzy. The funny thing is most of the student thought they were too old for muzzy and called it lame.
  14. In the US we and not forced to become fluent an a second language. I always thought it was intriguing how people from other countries could easily speak two or even three languages. I think it would be nice to be able to communicate with people from different places in their lanuage.
  15. The for dummies series is know for producing excellent results. It might be worth checking out in order to have an actual reference book to learn from. It is become harder to find real books that help teach language in this digital age. I will be looking for these books.
