I studied Russian for a very short period of time. I hope to get back too it one day. I haven't heard anything about it being more difficult than Japanese or easier than Chinese though. That's interesting.

I started learning my second language (French) in middle school, grade 7. I only took it for 2 years because the teacher left our school without enough notice to get a new French teacher in.

I love multiple choice. They are the easiest for me, especially since I have a hard time spelling the words sometimes (or I'll spell it correctly but forget the special character), so multiple choice helps me to not do that, plus they help me to continue learning as I'm reading the answers.

It depends on how many other things I have happening on how motivated I am. I like Duolingo because I get e-mails about studying everyday if I haven't been on yet, which reminds me too go n the site. I normally only do 1 or 2 lessons a day.

Yes, I've started a couple languages and then stopped after a couple of weeks. I usually always pick them back up after awhile, so I think it's because they are languages that not many people speak - well nobody I know anyway.

The last day or so, I've gotten used to the Genders... as far as masculine/feminine go. I am still getting confused with neutral now though, which seems odd, I'm sure.

I have a friend using Rosetta Stone - German and he enjoys it. The only thing he doesn't like is the price point. He said there are "group/live" lessons, where he can chat to native speakers after awhile, which he enjoys. I've used it for French (through a trial) and didn't enjoy it, but I don't know if it's because I had limited access to the program or not.

I chose German as my next learning language, because I've always thought it was a beautiful language. The words sound very beautiful. I think the country is beautiful as well. I also decided to learn it because, in high school, my drama teacher was an ex-German teacher at another school, she used to talk to us in German (which none of us really understood lol), so it made me want to learn the language.

Honestly, I studied French, because I was forced to take a foreign language in school. We only had two options and of the two, I'd rather learn French. I took two years of it then was forced into the other language anyway when the French teacher left and didn't tell anybody. :S

I think Google Translate is a good option for online translations, depending on the language you are trying to translate from (if none English). I haven't tried English to another language, but with a job I used too do, I would have to translate various languages into English and fix any mistakes (after translated). I noticed that when it translated from French to English it was pretty close, but when it translated, say, Japanese or something it was very far off and I'd have to use the words that were correct (be it correct all together, or spelled correctly) to determine the rest and leave a note about it. So, I think it depends.

Correct, the Island of Grimsey, is located within the Arctic Circle. I don't think I could ever live there as I like it when the sun, goes down lol. I'd love to visit though, I hear that Iceland is one of the friendliest and safest places in the world. So, my goal is to visit once in my lifetime. I used to have a program downloaded on my Android device with a bunch of different facts and photos about Iceland as a whole and the different regions. Nice, I'll have to check them out!! =)

I've always found writing harder than reading or speaking because you have to remove where the special letters are/which sign is above the letter when writing it. When speaking, you just have to pronounce the word correctly, same as with reading. I think it takes a lot more patience too learn the symbols and how to spell the words than it is too speak or read them.
