  1. Writing of course. With speaking you can get away with making small mistakes and still be understood. With reading you can kinda use contextual clues and guess around unfamiliar words. If you can write a perfect essay in a language, then I'd say you're fluent!
  2. My girlfriend is Brazilian. So Portugese it is! No idea how I'm gonna do this, but her parents would wet themselves.
  3. I come from Singapore, and they totally butcher the english language there! Not fun to listen/speak english there.
  4. Lyric is definitely a subset of poetry. So I'll rephrase the question to: Written poetry or musical lyrics? Obviously, they are two quite different art forms, although some poetry has a cadence/beat to it, making it quite similar. I prefer musical lyrics, because the music just adds another dimension of meaning and emotionality to the words.
  5. Definitely used to be guilty, but I'm gradually trying to phase it out of my online conversations. The thing is, what can replace it?? Haha just sounds awkward to me. LOL just so perfectly captures it! Haha. Lol. Ugh. :bored: :bored:
  6. Hi! I speak English, mandarin and a little french. I'm pretty serious with a Brazilian girl, and her whole family speaks Portugese. I really want to learn Portugese to impress them! Can you tell me where I should start, and approximately how long it'll take for me to be able to engage in light table-talk?
