  1. In terms of learning a language, correct grammar usage is of the utmost importance. I think that slight exceptions in grammar can be given in between native speakers, however. Perfect grammar is pretty much impossible to have!
  2. Mine has always been deceive or any "ei-ie" word! They kill me all the time. I also have the desire to spell business buisness which I think looks better than bus-i-ness. Oh well.
  3. I agree with all the other posts here about "having your cake and eating it too". I definitely wasn't even aware of this saying until my teenage years, until when I heard a friend say it. I didn't have the faintest clue what he meant, but after asking around was able to discover its' meaning. Felt like an idiot haha! :shy:
  4. I don't speak Castillian but I would love to learn soon. I'm a very intermediate Spanish speaker but would love to visit Spain/Northern spain soon. The ability to speak both would help immensely in this endeavor.
  5. I've always worried that the American spanish I've learned won't hold up in a Spanish speaking country. I've been toying with the thought of moving to Uruguay, but know that their spanish is very different from American/Spanish spanish. I'd have to do an immersion course to fix this I assume?
  6. Mine is definitely "Que tal?". It always came across as super chill to me for some reason. I use it with my friends all the time, even if they don't speak spanish!. It's just a fun way to change things up.
  7. As opposed to most people, I usually only use "LOL" when I actually laugh out loud. If I receive a funny video or witness something hilarious, I laugh out loud! Where people get in trouble usually is when they use it in the wrong context, or where they are trying to make others laugh themselves, which never works. This only comes across as annoying!
  8. Hey all, Just wondering some good songs to check out for an Intermediate level of Spanish. I have taken three years at University and enjoy most songs, but some feature speakers/singers that are a little too fast for me. I do enjoy the challenge of this, however, as it's good practice! Any suggestions are welcome.
  9. I agree with this wholeheartedly. I find that the more I am forced to not speak/think in English, the easier it is for me to integrate the target language into my mind. I am able to review everyday objects around me in Spanish often, which doesn't happen if I'm constantly surrounded by English speaking individuals. I do try to do this at University often.
  10. I think that listening is definitely my best skill I have when it comes to languages. I have always had a knack for paying attention to the finer details of what someone is saying, especially in my picked-up language through school (Spanish). I always rocked the listening portion of tests!
  11. Having only learned Spanish in school, I find that when I'm outside of that classroom environment the lack of speaking it definitely hinders my knowledge of the language. I find myself thinking to myself in Spanish as I'm walking around to try to keep my mind sharp
  12. I really agree with this. I mean, if you already head into a conversation with someone new with a prejudged idea of who they are as a person, I feel like you're automatically setting yourself up for either disappointment or losing out on the opportunity of meeting someone new. The accent of someone can also add to this, and in my opinion doesn't add anything positive or negative to someone's personality. It just gives you more information about where they may be from!
