  1. I honestly think cartoons are one of the best ways for a kid to learn English easily and in a fun way. It's how I did it, at least. Kids soak up a lot of the things they see, and great cartoons with good dialogue are a great learning tool. Most major countries have dubs on their cartoons, but not in Croatia, at least not for the bigger networks like Cartoon Network. And it's not just vocabulary, kids can already develop an ear for grammar using cartoons, and they'll sense when something just sounds off when they hear someone say a bigger mistake. Another great thing is translating them, for instance if they're watching it with younger siblings or cousins, they could try to translate for them a bit and explain what's going on. All in all, cartoons are a great medium for children.
  2. Nope. I keep repeatedly getting asked when did I live in America or what cousin do I have from there since my accent has nothing to do with my mother tongue. I've never even been out of the country, so I always take it as a compliment I suppose.
  3. Ćevapi - a great meal but I've never seen anyone translate it to English properly as there is no good word for it, but I guess it's acceptable when translated as 'chevapi' this is the food btw : http://www.opinian.com/img/taste_images/5-2012-04-09-21-06-47-big.jpg
  4. I slit the sheet, The sheet I slit and on the slitted sheet I sit. A canner can can anything that he can, But a canner can't can a can, can he? Although I love the example of a sentence with 5 'had', one right after another. English can be really weird.
  5. I wanted to speak another foreign language besides English, but ending up in a high school that doesn't focus on languages didn't really help out. I started learning some Japanese for the amount of media I consume, for instance, having to wait before a game is fully translated can be quite a pain. not just that, but I also love the culture.
  6. My brother once got hyped about Rosetta Stone and downloaded 10 different languages, it didn't really keep him interested for that long. He found them somewhere online for free, and I'm thinking of maybe checking them out eventually, just to see if they're any good.
  7. Unless if you're looking for a single word, Google Translate is pretty much never a good idea. I've seen people put their homework through it and it just looked grotesquely bad, and I've heard of people not even putting in enough effort to translate into the correct language.
  8. A couple more: The very wary warrior veered violently where the violets wound very wickedly. On a lazy laser raiser lies a laser ray eraser. Chop shops stock chops. Try saying the last one as fast as you can haha
  9. I used to study Italian in elementary for about 5 years, but after hat I hadn't picked it up and I've been meaning to do so. Right now I'm self-learning Japanese though, so far I got all of hiragana down and am about to start studying katakana.
  10. In elementary you get to choose if you wish to study a second foreign language. German and Italian were the only options, and I liked the sound of Italian a lot more. I studied it for 5 years there, but didn't put much effort so now I've forgotten most things. I wish to go back and fix that, though.
  11. For Croatian: 'Tvoja sam/Tvoj sam' (f/m) and Italian 'Sono tuo' A lovely phrase, I sued to have a paper with 'I love you' in about 50 languages for a school project.
  12. Ahhh tongue twisters Here's a couple ' Wunwun was a racehorse,Tutu was one, too. Wunwun won one race, and Tutu won one too. ' ' A pessimistic pest exists amidst us. ' ' Ken Dodd's dad's dog's dead. '

    Practice

Right now, school is though as is, so I leave language learning for my free time. You really need to have a good will to learn, so I think one should always ask themselves really well why they want to learn a specific language? Will they use it? If you gather many reasons and turn practice into fun with games, then doing it every day won't be a problem.
