  1. I have to admit that the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread was sleeping with my Trig book under my pillow when I was in college. And praying. A lot. One or the other must have worked since I managed to pass the course with a C and fulfill my math requirement. Not sure I would recommend the book thing to learn a language I'm sure prayer never hurts anything.
  2. Ever since high school and really before that I was interested in learning other languages. I did learn some German in elementary school and I think that may have been what interested me. Also, unlike math, I'm quite good at learning languages I had 4 years of Spanish and 3 of Latin in high school. I would have had 4 of Latin as well but did not start Latin until sophomore year. In college I ended up with a double major in English and Spanish. I've always wanted to learn Italian as well.
  3. I have a degree in Spanish (and English, but that's my mother tongue). Was trying to get a job in another state, flew in at my own expense. BOMBED the interview in Spanish part. Wasted money and time. Not good at all.
  4. I cannot roll my rs to save my life. Also my high school spanish teacher used to tell me I spoke "spangish" and ever since then I've been afraid to try to pronounce anything. Was always much better in reading and even writing than speaking/understanding spoken speech.
  5. When I was a child, I was lucky enough to attend a "hippie" kind of grade school. One of the cool things we got to study was German. While I don't remember as much German as I did in school, I'm pretty surprised by the amount I do remember. Any similar experiences?
