I really need your help in writing a short paragraph about myself to a friend but he only knows French.

My name is Christine and I am from Jamaica. I am 24 years old and have a 2 years old daughter. A second year Business Administration Student at the University of the West Indies. The fact that we want to communicate with each other and are not bilingual, you can try downloading a translation software to help us along the way.

If you have any suggestions as to a good software you can just state the name. Thanks in advance.

I almost bit my tongue practicing :-) wish there was a voice section so I'd know if my pronunciation is ok.

Hey everyone, I am intersted in learning French from a native speaker, the method would be via Skype. Anyone interested in being my teacher?

I have always been curious about this too as I am a native English speaker myself. I am of the impression though that it is the easiest language to learn but there is no little sexiness to it. It is just plain old, I especially hate the England English pronunciations. It sounds annoying to me, I prefer the fast and more precise American English.

Interesting, I had no idea so many languages came from Latin, it is always great to know our roots. I don't think I would learn it quickly though, sounds rather complicated.

Hello everyone, I have oftentimes mix up the two has/have. I  am certain I have misused them both on several occasions. How and when do I use or know when to use has/have in a sentence. Please give a few examples in your responses.

I think I am pretty fast at this as I love to read and read a lot, very fast too. Since you have made mention of this I think I would love to do a test, too see if my skills are still in tact. I do hope there is a website there somewhere that I can find to test my levels on.

The TOEFL is being used here in Jamaica at most if not all the major universities/colleges. I think it is a good one as I have heard most persons saying it is quite easy. I guess everyone's opinions may differ though.

sillylucy I love Italian food and I do think their accent is sexy but it is largely dependent on who is speaking it and how it is done.

Spanish is beautiful but I would give it to the French language all the way and to complement that, I was told that French men are also very romantic Maybe I need to try one.

Out of curiosity I visited and it seemed rather complicated to me anyway. Maybe it is because I have not really made up my mind to study another language besides French and Spanish for right now :bored:

Thanks a lot for this, I have made several mistakes over time some that I am not even sure of the correct grammar. This sounds like fun, I will be trying it shortly.

I have only tried it with Spanish phrases and short sentences, it worked pretty well for me. Have no idea about the other languages though.

I have heard of several such languages and I see a lot being named, the most commonly known ones for me are the Ethiopian languages which are ridiculously hard to learn and write, i.e for me. Someone already listed them at the top so I won't bother to do the same.

French is the main second language I want to learn as I currently speak English only. I am also considering to relocate to Canada for the new year and that is my main reason. Welcome to the community and looking forward to learning from you.

Thanks even though the replies are late but I did say it in French and he loved it. He is happy that I am also trying to learn a second language and he actually thinks I am progressing Well each day here I am learning something new. Thanks to you awesome people.

The basics are the most important and whenever we forget that we will automatically forget all else. Just like a Mathematical problem, whenever we forget the basics we have to go over the lesson again from start.

I always laugh when I hear people talking Tagalog, I would love to learn it but it seems rather complicated. It also reminds me of the Jamaican creole, some words just sound weird. There are several words that are the same but have different meanings depending on the context in which they are used.

Most Filipinos are trying to learn English and has lost focus on their original language I guess. It is similar here, people don't think you are smart if you talk strictly creole, so everyone is teaching their children English and when they try to talk our native Patois they mix it with English. It is not always pleasant but as Sidney said, some things may be acceptable.
